La Nopalera Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Richmond Hill

I would give it a negative star if I could. My friends and I went to this restaurant. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated. (Which we did not mind.) Once seated, nobody checked up on us for a good 20-30 minutes. One of the many servers they had finally took our order. It took another 10 minutes to bring our drinks. Nothing fancy, 2 glasses of water and a coke. Now, another waiting game begins… another 20-30 mins passed. Nobody is checking on us or anything. The people seated about 10 minutes before us were still waiting for their food. I decided to get up and get some attention from the waiter. When the waiter saw me, he said, “Wait a second,” without eye contact, then walked off. That's when my friend and I got up and walked to the front desk to at least pay for the drinks we ordered and leave. Then some man, I’m guessing a manager, started pointing fingers and talking to us while yelling, “We are busy,” “Just go!!.” I can’t even describe the embarrassment and the anger I felt. Their food might be good. Sure. But I have never seen or tasted it, so I couldn’t tell you. Also, based on their attitudes, I assume it's nasty. I was very excited to go here due to us being regulars at the la nopalera closer to our home but unfortunately I was very disappointed. The seating arrangements make the restruant very loud and overcrowded during the dinner rush. We practically had to yell to be able to hear each other. The food was okay, not the best but also digestible thought not worth the hour and a half it took to get it. What really made the whole experience aweful was our waitress. She was very good at keeping our drinks filled but the problem came when she brought the check. I signed the receipt and when she gathered it she asked "did you mean to leave it like that?" I casually said "oh sorry I thought u needed a signed copy" she goes "I need a signed copy but what about my tip? Your not going to leave me a tip after everything I done?". Now I had ALWAYS Planned on tipping, I had just decided to tip using cash and not the card I paid with. I don't know how they get 4 stars. I hated it the first time I dined and this time, my wife pushed me into giving them a second chance since it's a locally owned restaurant in Richmond Hill. Seemed under staffed and had a lot of to go orders, which were a priority for them. The food was terrible. First, it took a long time to put the order in and even longer to receive it. My steak fries were not cooked through and seemed like they took them out of the freezer [freezer burn taste no extra charge] and threw them in the oven and tookthem out prematurely and expeditiously with an al dented consistency (slight but discernible resistance when you bite into it.) The meat tasted old and chewy. My wife's fajitas were terrible, to say the least. Didn't even bother to melt the cheese.
