I am writing this review not due to the food quality of the restaurant but their behavior of profiling my son who was there to get dinner on evening of 4/22. So this is how it goes . My Son who is 28 year old walks in the restaurant and waits for a table to be seated . Once he is seated, he gets really weird look from the staff . He has no idea that why he is getting this looks from the staff. Then one of the waitresses just walks over to him and questions him in front of everyone if his name is Ahmed and he did not pay his bill when he was at the restaurant the previous night . My Son was really taken back and was in disbelief due to this gesture of accusation . He tells them that his name is not Ahmed and he was not there yesterday at all. The waitress refuses to not belief him till he pulls out his Drivers License and Business card to prove that he is not that person ( Ahmed). After he proves he is not that person the waitress just walks away without any apology. Really.... At this point my Son was very upset and asked to speak with the manager. The manager comes out and says that he is sorry about this and offers him a free drink. How would a free drink rectify the humiliation he just went through by one of their very incompetent and possibly racial staff. Did he get treated like this because he was wearing Jeans and Hoody. The waitress was a white female and my Son looks like Black/Pacific Islander male. What shall we deduce from such am appalling behavior from the...
Read moreIt was alright. Pho tasted a bit bland. Fried rolls and spring rolls were smaller than average viet rolls in any other viet restaurants, I expected peanut sauce with it like all viet spots do with theirs. Spring rolls were a bit spicy in there! Not suppose to be in there! Pork chops were bomb. They were smaller portions for the price I paid for ...65 dollars was not worth it to me. taste? Nothing spectacular. Food is good but it didnt give me the wow factor like it wasnt that delicious. So I've eaten alot of vietnamese restaurants for many years. I expected more from this fancy place. Not a true flavorful homedown vietnamese high end eats. I think the food tasted like less rich in flavors and went with a simple not overwhelming peoples taste buds. I only ordered 4 items. This is what I take from it. If ur gonna open up a high end cultural cuisine restaurant, make the food flavorful, bold and rich. Make ur food stand out like ur taking us back to ur home town and that's the kind of food that u ate from ur moms cooking when u were 10. Dont lessen the rich flavors. If I'm paying 65 dollars for smaller portions, please make the dishes a bit more generous in size and make the food more flavorful adding with some of grandmas special vietnamese secret ingredients in it!! Then...
Read moreAnh is new. But they're already on their second incarnation! It's a family owned place and, when they first opened, the patriarch was the head cook. Unfortunately, after being open only 2-3 weeks, the patriarch suffered a serious medical emergency that both closed the restaurant for about a month - and prevented his return as head cook.
Now they're open again and struggling (just a bit) to find their center. Their food is quite good - the short ribs are to die for! - but they are struggling on some dishes (bland spring rolls - for instance) while they try to regain the perfection that existed under the patriarch.
I live nearby, and although I think Anh is a great place to eat (albeit a bit pricey) - decor is fabulous and eating outdoors when the weather is good is a real treat - I still wish the space was Amini's Deli. The Deli filled a necessary niche in this neighborhood. We didn't really need a 2nd fine dining restaurant (no matter how good) sharing a parking lot with Salute! Note the star I didn't give wasn't because I'd rather the deli was still there! That wouldn't be fair to Anh! I withheld the star because they're still not quite as good as they can (and...
