Alright, buckle up pizza and sub lovers, because I've just experienced something truly special at Piccola Italy, and I need to shout it from the rooftops! If you're anywhere near Richmond, Virginia, and you're craving authentic New York-style pizza and a meatball sub that will redefine your definition of "best," then listen up. Let's start with the pizza. Oh. My. Goodness. Piccola Italy absolutely nails the New York style. The crust? Thin, foldable, with that perfect balance of crispy edges and a slightly chewy interior. Each slice is wide and generous, just the way it should be. And the toppings? Clearly high-quality. The sauce is tangy and flavorful, the cheese is melty and gooey, and they don't skimp on it. It's the real deal, folks. Now, hold onto your hats, because we need to talk about their meatball sub. I don't say this lightly: this is literally the best meatball sub I have ever had in my entire life. Bold statement, I know, but it's the honest truth. The meatballs themselves are clearly homemade, tender and bursting with flavor – you can taste the herbs and spices in every bite. They're nestled in a perfectly toasted roll that's soft on the inside and has just the right amount of crunch on the outside. And the sauce? Rich, savory, and coats the meatballs perfectly without making the bread soggy. It's a symphony of textures and tastes that will leave you completely and utterly satisfied. Seriously, if you go to Piccola Italy and don't try the meatball sub, you are missing out on a truly transcendent culinary experience. The atmosphere at Piccola Italy is casual and welcoming, the kind of place where you feel comfortable grabbing a quick slice or settling in for a more leisurely meal. The staff are friendly and seem genuinely passionate about their food. In conclusion, Piccola Italy is a gem. Their New York-style pizza is a fantastic representation of a classic, and their meatball sub? Well, it's simply legendary. Do yourself a favor and make a trip to Piccola Italy. Your taste buds will thank you. Five out of five...
Read moreSuper disappointed in my recent experience with Piccola. My roommate and I decided to order a pizza last night (even after I begged to order from a different place). It was around 8:30. We placed the order and were told it would be about a 40 minutes wait. To make a long and annoying story short, we received our pizza at 9:40, after calling twice to ask when it would arrive. Pizza guy shows up, and we find that we had not been given the sauces that we ordered on the side. The little sticker on the box clearly showed that they had rung us up and entered the sauces. We run out to the delivery guy, who says he doesn't know anything about extra sauces. I then call back, only to be very rudely spoken to by the gentleman on the line, who's name was Will. He told me that he had not charged me for extra sides...even though the "receipt/sticker" on the side of the box clearly said that we requested extra sides of sauces, and we what we paid for was absolutely more than the cost of just 1 large pizza. Also, the pizza was room temperature, so clearly it had been made and sat around for a while. Which I guess would make sense since we received it extremely late. The gentleman, Will, was extremely rude, didn't offer any type of solution, said that all of their drivers were out and that no one was coming back for us. Great customer experience, Will. Never ordering from this joke of a restaurant again, which is a shame because my roommate is a friend of the owner, and has been ordering pizza from this place for as long as he's been a Richmond resident. Would never recommend this place to...
Read morePiccola’s is a classic college takeout and dine-in eatery that has been serving Richmond for 25 years. It offers a variety of pizzas, subs, salads, and appetizers, as well as a selection of Italian wines.
I decided to try their pastrami sub baked with added hot sauce and jalapeños, which sounded like a spicy and satisfying choice. The sub was generously filled with sliced pastrami, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and mayonnaise. The bread was toasted and crispy on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside. The hot sauce and jalapeños added a nice kick to the meaty and cheesy flavor, but not too much to overwhelm the taste buds. The sub was large enough to fill me up, but not too heavy to make me feel sluggish.
I enjoyed the sub very much and would recommend it to anyone who likes a bit of spice in their sandwich. Piccola’s is a great place to grab a quick and tasty bite, whether you are a student or not.
The service was friendly and efficient, and the price was reasonable. I paid around 12 dollars with tax and tip for takeout. I would definitely go back to Piccola’s and try some of their other menu items, such as their pizzas,...
