My wife and I were delightfully surprised when we discovered how incredible the food is here! We had the chicken shawarma, kofta, and salad. The ingredients were fresh, the portions generous, and the flavor was amazing!
I can describe the shawarma as tasty and aromatic. Aside from being absolutely delicious, the only word that seems appropriate is well-crafted. That might sound odd, but I just want to emphasize how carefully prepared and thoughtful the dish felt.
The husband and wife who own and operate this gem of a restaurant were welcoming, attentive, and so helpful in narrowing down their menu for us to make a first foray. We simply cannot wait to come back and try the next dish and the next dish.
Due to gluttony, we also ordered dessert including the baklava and a shortbread cookie with fig paste, the name escapes me. The pistachios in the baklava were wonderful, and not overpowered by the honey and filo, and the shortbread cookie was equally as scrumptious. Our family of five was split on which was better. Why not both?
I have posted pictures of the shawarma and desserts.
PS two of our children are not adventurous eaters and they were served the most beautiful golden brown grilled cheese and fries. My wife loves her frites and she remarked that they were great as well.
Tl;dr - fantastic casual eatery in Carytown serves ridiculously awesome Iraqi/ Lebanese/ ??? bites. I mean crazy good. Why are you still reading...
Read morePretty tasty new gyro place in Carytown. Being a former resident of an area with a high Mediterranean/Middle Eastern population, I am a great appreciator of restaurants that choose the route of the hand-stacked, slow roasted spinning meat spit, and have been disappointed with the number of places that choose that, instead opting for cheaper pre-sliced lamb/beef slices. The flavor going this route is so much better. Getting the crispy bits of meat shaved off is unbeatable. We opted to try a lamb/beef gyro and a mixed Shawarma (with chicken, beef, and lamb all together). The sizes were massive. The only reason I didn't give a full five stars is because it seems to me they may just be using a flour tortilla for the Shawarma, which should be the thinner pita bread wrap, which gives a better flavor and texture. And the Shawarma needed a lot more of the garlic sauce! But overall, it...
Read moreMy wife and I grabbed dinner takeout from Carytown Gyro last night, and it was excellent. We ordered wings and fries, and everything was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying.
The real standout wasn’t just the food: it was the staff. They’re always incredibly friendly, which makes the whole experience feel welcoming even when we’re just stopping in for takeout. That kind of genuine hospitality is rare and definitely makes a difference.
We eat here somewhat frequently, and every visit reinforces why we keep coming back. Recently, I tried their lamb and rice, and it was absolutely amazing.
Nothing about our experiences has ever been disappointing, and the value for what we order always exceeds our expectations. Carytown Gyro is a solid place and guarantees amazing food, amazing value and amazing service.
Highly recommend, we always look forward to...
