J J Knapp's Tavern — Restaurant in Richmond

That ol' faithful cabin fever started taking a toll on me so we decided to go out for dinner and a couple drinks.. Let me point out its Saturday at 8pm too.. We went to 3 other places local before finding one that the kitchen was still open.. Let me start by say they have Saturday Specialty Burger.. I assume it's different every Sat. but today's was awesome!! I forget the name but it was a beef patty with pulled BBQ pork, onion straws and slaw!! WOW..and let me add we had appetizers as well.. The wings? At 1st I thought, GREAT!! Burnt bar wings!! Nothing screams you need to drink more to eat burnt bar wings!! But not these!! They looked it but only had a touch of charred and was soooo juicy and perfectly cooked!!! Great job guys... Can I also add that the Gentleman that seated us and the Lovely Lady serving us were in great spirits and made us feel welcomed... Even the other patrons were almost overly friendly that night... The last three times we’ve been to Knapp’s the food has been bad! My family has been going there since I was very young. The food used to be great, burgers were the best around! My chicken sandwich was still pink in the center and the owner proceeded to tell me it was cooked. The burgers for the past 2 times were not good. Once was old meat that smelled terrible and the other tasted odd. The steak quesadilla had hardly nothing inside it and we got charged for the first sour cream that was supposed to come with our nachos. The kitchen just seems to be going downhill for the past 2 years and although we continue to give it another shot, after the last time and the manager basically telling us we were wrong and that they Temped our chicken (although it was still pink), it makes us not...

Came here with a couple buddies because we all been coming here for years. While the burgers were still excellent, basically everything lacked exteemely compared to pre covid. We got about 10 fries for $3.25. I got a chicken caesar to go with about 4 slices of chicken. My fried mushrooms are overcooked and basically black. Do you change your grease? And they were a little over $6. My drink was watery and run down. The watress spilt drinks twice. Very disappointing. But the basket of fries to go was a descent portion. had one jack and coke a burger and fries chicken caesar salad and fries mushrooms and it was 42 dollars....
