I’ve been to Masa Taqueria in Richmond and their drive-thru location a handful of times, and I keep coming back because the food is consistently delicious and satisfying.
On my most recent visit, I had a shredded chicken taco, a shredded chicken tostada (accidentally got pinto beans instead of blac...oops!), a chicken in green sauce tamale, and an carnitas entrée plate. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. The tamale was especially good, and moist. The asada was really flavorful , and the taco was solid, as always.
In the past, I’ve also ordered their shrimp tacos, flautas, and burrito, and both have always been consistent and tasty. One small gripe: when I order a burrito with just beans and avocado (no meat), I always have to ask for more beans. It tends to come a little light otherwise, but you are paying a full price. So I usually order inside if I want a black bean and avocado burrito.
Also, sometimes you have to ask for sides like salsa or carrots/radish mix, which can be a little frustrating if you’re grabbing food to go and you come home and don't have it. That said, the team is friendly and helpful once you speak up.
Don’t miss their horchata, it’s one of the best I’ve had. I also really like mixing it with their strawberry jugo drink for something a little fruity with that.horchata goodness.
Overall, Masa Taqueria is a solid go-to for flavorful, casual Mexican food with great drinks and mostly smooth service.
Also, they make crazy cocktails. I liked it better during the pandemic but it's still really good. Now you just get a standard cocktail in a glass with an added fruit or flower. But you're going to pay a little bit of a heftier price for a pretty photographic cocktail, you just gotta ask. I'll add those...
Read moreWe absolutely adore the food at this establishment! Every visit is a culinary delight, with each dish bursting with flavor and prepared to perfection. The staff members are consistently friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall pleasant dining experience. This spot has quickly become one of our go-to destinations for both breakfast and lunch – we simply can't get enough of it! While we wholeheartedly give it a five-star rating for its delicious offerings, we do have a couple of minor observations. Firstly, finding parking can be a bit challenging due to limited space in the parking lot. Additionally, the packaging for takeout orders could be improved, as it's sometimes a bit tricky to handle. However, these are small inconveniences compared to the overall outstanding quality of the food and service.
One highlight of our visits is indulging in their freshly made fruit drinks, especially the refreshing Cucumber Pineapple blend – it's an absolute must-try! And let's not forget about their mouthwatering Super Burritos, which are simply divine and rank among the best in the entire Bay Area. The restaurant offers a cozy yet vibrant atmosphere, with TV screens in the private back room and high seating tables adding to the relaxed ambiance. The outdoor seating area is a hidden gem, perfect for gatherings and special events. The laid-back vibe, coupled with the lively Latin music playing in the background, creates a truly enjoyable dining atmosphere. Overall, this establishment is a culinary gem that never fails to impress – highly recommended for anyone seeking delicious food in a...
Read moreHesitant of ordering again... Ordered 2 tamales and 1 burrito. Strawberry tamale was pretty mid, it tasted like water in some parts and then all of a sudden like marmalade and tasted more like raisin than any strawberry. The sweet corn was hella good although its almost like your having cornbread that's just more moist. Another thing is that strawberry was 3$ and was like half the size of the sweet corn tamale (2.5$). Definitely the strawberry tamale does not deserve to be priced at 3$.
The burrito was going pretty well and didn't really have any complaints until the center where the guacamole came with an avocado seed and ruined the whole burrito, trust me you don't ever want to bite into an avocado seed (the taste is hard to explain, it's not sweet, it's not sour, it's not spicy or nothing, it taste like something that shouldn't be tasted in the first place) literally ruined the burrito, and to make it worse around the center the meat just disappeared... Yeah only rice and beans and guac from the center down... All total was 22$
EDIT: I have come several times since this interview and it definitely deserves at least a 4.5. Its my favorite Mexican place because they got so much variety and they have good tamales, they tasted better the other last times...
