Disappointed by the Vibe, Despite a Decent Coffee
Unfortunately, our experience at Kaleidoscope Coffee was not what we hoped for. As we walked in, we were immediately and rudely told “no dogs allowed” — no “hello,” no “welcome,” just a cold and unwelcoming tone right off the bat. As a dog owner, I understand and respect that not all establishments allow pets indoors, and that’s totally fine — it’s more about how it was said.
Still wanting to give them a chance, we went ahead and placed an order. The person at the register was wearing AirPods and seemed fully engaged in another conversation, making the interaction feel dismissive, like we were bothering him just by being there.
Surprisingly, the iced coffee was actually pretty good, but sadly, that alone isn’t enough to make up for the lack of warmth or hospitality.
What’s most confusing is that this is a place that displays LGBTQ+ flags — a symbol of inclusion, acceptance, and kindness — yet our experience as a friendly, quiet heterosexual couple with a small pup felt anything but inclusive.
Won’t be returning. Richmond has plenty of other local spots that understand the value of a welcoming...
Read moreI come here regularly with my two kids after swimming at the Plunge (another great spot in Point Richmond, but I digress)! Food - Their coffee is delicious - I always get an oat milk latte and my kids get ice cream! They carry ice cream from Tara's in Berkeley, which is one of the best in the area. My favorite flavor is black sesame and my kids' favorites are too many but strawberry is a biggie. They also have ice cream sizes like the itty bitty which is easier on the wallet, but still satisfies our sweet tooth. There are plenty of vegan options from sorbet to baked goods to non-dairy milks! Staff- The staff are friendly and generous people! Ambiance- The ambiance is welcoming - there are some tables in a sunny area in the front of the shop and many more seating options in the back of the shop along with books and board games so you never feel like you are overstaying your welcome : ). Also, there are plenty of folks who are working from home in the back, so we try to keep our noise level down when we are hanging out back there. This is a gem of a spot in...
Read moreOrder two matcha lemonades, there were multiple drinks a head of ours, however not 30 minutes worth of drinks. After waiting for 30 minutes and seeing at least one group who ordered after us receive their drinks (cappuccino and latte or something involving work from the barista) was tired of the ridiculous wait. When I went back in line my drinks were now next to be made and there were apologies being given. I am fully aware that mistakes can be made and drinks can be lost in the flurry of orders but 30 minutes for lemonade and matcha mixed together is ridiculous while others waited 5-10 minutes. I could go much further with this this review but that would only be opinion so I will still with facts, waited 30 minutes people who ordered after us got their drinks that were much more complicated then ours prior to ours being made, and when I asked for a refund the drinks were finally going to be made but only after I asked...
