Raymond's is an odd beast. On one hand, they make pretty solid pizza with excellent dough and high-quality ingredients. On the other hand, their staff is consistently unpleasant. I understand that their product is in high demand, which brings scarcity and entitled customers. Unfortunately, most of the staff I've interacted with seem to have internalized hostility toward those customers. Over the last year, I've had several great pies. Sadly, I've had just as many unpleasant customer service experiences. The end result is a restaurant that's difficult to recommend. Save your money, buy an Ooni, and be kind to people.
EDIT (2021): I'm pleased to say that my experiences at Raymond's over the last year have been markedly more positive than in the past. You'll definitely still encounter standoff-ish staff, but those folks don't seem to stick around for long. The core group of employees do a great job of balancing the stressful high demand for their product with quality customer service. The pies are still excellent, and it's great to be able to sit inside and have a pint of Pliny while you wait for your order.
EDIT (2022): After frequenting Raymond's for the last two years, I can confidently say that they're more than deserving of a 5-star rating. The pizza is consistently excellent. The to-go and draft beer options are unparalleled. And the customer service experience has steadily improved over time, due in large part to the welcoming shift lead and friendly kitchen team. Happy to have Raymond's as a part of my weekly routine.
EDIT (2023): Whatever misgivings I had about Raymond's when I initially posted this review have been totally allayed. Consistently great pies and excellent customer service, even to the point of making me a pie right before closing after I forgot to actually submit my order earlier in the day. The...
Read moreI can vaguely understand the hype. The location itself is top notch and reasonable parking/biking/transportation accessible options are all great, certainly for Richmond.
The food is good. Their dough is amazing. I love the half baked purchase, warmed and crisped upon ordering and service. McMushroom is the way to go. A 4 to 4.5/5 as far as pizza goes.
The space is pretty stagnant, really noting to note of atmosphere. The beer is overpriced, but crafty as they predominantly serve the classier Russian River options. Can’t go wrong there.
It stops for me at the pretentious and tired workers and service. First couple of times I went the workers forgot my slices, I had to check in on them after waiting 20 minutes for a reheated slice. And then there’s the dude cosplaying as Billie Joe Armstrong, chill out man. I walked in at 6:35pm mid-week to meet a friend from out of town. There was single pizza tray of miscellaneous slices at the counter, staff look to be actively cleaning. There were still people inside finishing their meals and having beer. Their website/The Google says they’re open until 9pm. I kindly ask Billie at the front counter if they’re closing. He responds with a “uuuhhh yeah? We close at 7?” As if I should have been well aware. I talk about what to do with my friend and just to make sure I’m not crazy, I show Billie the posted time per the Internet. He says “uuhhh yeah, that hasn’t been updated in years”. Again as if it’s my inconvenience I didn’t know this. I audibly laughed at Billie’s impersonation.
We ended up at the tavern on the corner for a couple of rounds and food that was arguably better than Raymond’s. (Really, check them out, they deserve the 4-5 stars).
All in all, the food and beer is pretty good, but I get pretty turned off at places that make me feel like an...
Read moreI was having lunch outdoors at the Taqueria next door (also very good) and kept seeing people at Raymonds eating the most delicous looking pizza. After i finished my tacos i went into Raymonds to see what it was all about. Well, I was immediately drawn to the gorgeous looking pies behind the glass, and while not hungry at all, i figured i had to bring some home for dinner later. Well, I just finished my first slice, and now onto my 2nd slice of peperoni and all I could think about was looking up this restaurant and posting a review. How have I never heard of you!! (well you are in a quiet little town of Pt Richmond .. but you're not far off the highway) I lived in NYC for 35 years. I've eaten a lot of good pizza. This is as good, if not better than any pizza i have ever eaten. Not only is the crust amazing, you can tell that all the ingredients are very high quality. Good Job Raymond!! I can't wait to have more!! In fact, we have at least one or two big pizza parties a years and you'll be...
