I read a bad review of Shyndigz right before I went, so I was honestly very concerned about their quality. I wish I had never read that review! This place was cute, trendy, popular, and pretty great at making cake! Let me give you the details
Food: The cake I had was huge, decadent, knock-your-teeth-out-sweet (the way a chocolate caramel cake should be) and the icing was a fudgy sink-your-teeth-in consistency (the way icing should be). The reviewers I read said she thought their cakes were dry with burnt edges - honestly, because I was looking for that I could see why she may have said that. Had I not been looking for it I would have noticed any dryness/crispiness. The friend I was with got cobbler. I was simultaneously underwhelmed and impressed with it. Impressed because it was a huge beautiful serving with large perfectly crispy-flaky-golden crusts/biscuits. The flavor was pretty good. Both my friend and I were disappointed with the amount of actual fruit filling it had. If the fruit filling had been on point, it might have contested for the best cobbler I've ever had (sorry mom).
Drink: I will say, though, I did not enjoy their latte. I am not sure why but the ratio of creme and espresso seemed very off to me. That may have jusr been my personal preference though. The friend I was with got straight coffee and said it was amazing.
Service: This place is very popular. As such, the service is a little slow and a touch inattentive. That being said, I had no problems with the service. The place is popular. Expect to have to share your wait staff's attention! Moreover, I was very impressed with the way the whole waitstaff supported one another. We were waited on by at least three different servers at one time or another because they all were working together to make sure their customers were cared for. A+!
Atmosphere: This place has magnificently charming atmosphere. The perfect trendy cake shop decor and playlist. Also, if you go, make sure to stop in to...
Read moreI was excited to have dessert here but the service was terrible. It was my friends birthday that she traveled home for and our waitress hardly paid attention to us. Not only did we wait 30 minutes for our drinks, but half our orders didn’t come out and our waitress was no where to be found. All our waters were empty and by the time the waitress Tina came back up to our table we were done and asking for boxes, which she never brought. We asked her to separate our checks into 5 because that is the limit and she messed up every single check. Once she delivered the messed up checks and the wrong Togo orders that was the last we saw of Tina. My friends ordered cannolis to go at the beginning of the night and they never received them because they were now out or else given away because the order was no longer in the refrigerator. Lastly the waitress never came up to fix any of the checks nor apologize for how terrible the service was. It took about 45 minutes to check out and we had to get the manager to take care of that. We got no discounts what so ever or were offered nothing for the terrible service that we had received that night. Other waiters had to step in and take care of Tina’s job for her because she was no where to be found and the manager fixed our checks and they were delivered by another waiter at the end who we had not seen the whole time, but was very sincere a Still no apologies from Tina because she didn’t care about her tip. It was truely disappointing considering how delicious the desserts are here and it was my first time dining in and will certainly be my last. If that’s how they treat big parties celebrating a birthday then I don’t want to know how they acknowledge small parties that aren’t spending as much money. It’s clear that they don’t train their staff well or else Tina just doesn’t care about her job. Such a disappointing experience but the manager was very accommodating and able to...
Read moreI do not have enough positive words to describe how much I enjoyed the desserts at Shyndigz. As an out-of-towner I had to indulge in all they had to offer.
Our order was as follows: Fruit Cake, Belle Isle's Cake, Swamp Bar, Oatmeal Creme Pies, Chocolate Chip Cookie, and a Shyndigz cookie.
They know how to bake and build flavors. The cakes were perfect. The cake light, fluffy, and moist. In-between the layers, each type was packed with filling and flavor. The exterior icing sweet, but not in an overwhelming amount. I have never had a better cake. If I had to choose between our choices, pick fruit because the fruit feels more healthy. The oatmeal creme pies are the best I've ever had. The oatmeal cookies are phenomenal and the filling is just enough to add sweetness. I would skip the swamp bar....the chocolate covered rice crispy on top is fantastic and the peanut butter chip brownie on the bottom is awesome, but the marshmallow was a bit too thick. It made it impossible to cut and a little too sweet to enjoy as one person (that being said you saw how many different desserts we tried).
Shoutout to the staff for their incredibly quick and friendly service! They offered awesome recommendations and were patient when we were attempting to make decisions.
Shyndigz is a one of kind place that I was at the top of my list on places to visit in Richmond VA. It did not disappoint and I would encourage everyone to enjoy what they have to offer. Greatest desserts I have...
