I had a very disappointing experience at Holly Philly. When ordering a combo, I asked to upgrade to a Green Refresher and was told I’d just pay the difference. After sitting down, the cashier called me back five minutes later to say she had forgotten to add the upcharge. I figured it would be about a dollar or two, but she insisted it was $4.50. I pointed out that the Refresher alone is $4.99 and the soda it replaces is $1.50, so the upcharge should have been $3.50 at most. She held firm at the $4.50 due, looked at me and asked, “Is that okay?” I flat out said, “No, it’s not okay.” She just stared at me awkwardly until I paid to avoid further delay and to keep my wife from being disappointed but this definitely set a tone for the rest of the meal.
The time taken to receive our food was 28 minutes based on the receipt time, 5:43p and a pic taken of the food upon receipt, 6:11p. There was only one other table of two people in the restaurant who were already eating. Even with the ~5 online orders coming for pick up in that period, this was way too long.
The Refresher itself was another letdown. The cashier never asked if we wanted Sprite or soda water (both noted as options on the board), so we ended up with Sprite when we had wanted soda water. That was partially on me for not clarifying, but it would have been nice if she had asked as she had no problem calling me back for the aforementioned upcharge. The drink didn’t look like the picture in the least; it wasn't even green since the green apple syrup sat at the bottom like saccharine sludge without mixing even when shaken.
The fries were overly salty and clearly frozen. The steak and peppers on the sandwich were solid and plentiful, but it was over a very heavy bed of ketchup, which wasn’t listed on the board and wasn’t mentioned when the cashier asked if we'd like lettuce and mayo.
For a single combo meal at a staggering $23.41 (plus $2 tip given at the time of order before the issues arose), I expected far better. Between the poor handling of the upcharge, 28 minute wait, the badly made drink, frozen fries and a sandwich ruined with ketchup, this was definitely among the worst meals I’ve had in RVA. I would not recommend...
