There are restaurants…and then there are experiences. Sushi by Sea is an experience. A place so far and above what one normally expects when going out to an exclusive, well-reviewed hot spot, that it’s difficult to put into words. If you’re lucky enough to get an invite, you’ll be in for one of those dinners that you compare to all others, before or after.

I’ve been itching to go to Sushi by Sea since they opened, so when we finally got the opportunity to snag a seat, I was amped. Often, this leads to a let-down, but even with my bar set high, SbS exceeded my expectations.

They’ve nailed every part.

The atmosphere is just so cool…from the moment you score a coveted seat, to showing up to the unmarked secret location, to giving a password to get in, to the “neighborhood bar” feeling amongst the other 12 guests, to the relaxed vibe mixed in with low-key but excellent service. They strike the perfect balance of feeling special without pretension or aires.

The food is truly next level. I’ve been to several of the country’s best sushi restaurants, and I can confidently say SbS is hands down the best omakase experience in the country. Chef Chris is both thoughtful and endearing with each and every course, and that becomes apparent in both explantation and taste. He describes each course as it’s served, explaining how and why he chose that particular dish, in that particular order, on that particular night. And he does so in a way that not only enhances how one enjoys the dish, but with a level of knowledge and care that is nothing short of inspirational. You know you’re eating something prepared by someone who is unequivocally at the top of their craft.

And honestly, that’s the vibe I got from every aspect of SbS—it’s simply a melding of people who are the very best at what they do. The food, atmosphere, service, and even your fellow guests, all working as one to deliver a night to remember.

An unforgettable culinary experience! Our visit was to celebrate my birthday. Sushi by Sea is more than just a dining destination—it’s an experience steeped in mystique and warmth. It's like visiting a foreign place with no idea of what to expect, kind of like a speakeasy but more. From the moment we secured our reservation to our arrival at the restaurant, anticipation built in a way that heightened the exclusivity of the evening. Upon entering, the waiting area set the stage, adorned with striking canvas paintings by Mitchell Schorr, while the intimate sushi bar promised an immersive culinary journey.

Seated “front and center” among thirteen guests, we felt immediately welcomed by the engaging and hospitable crew. Chef Chris and Josh embodied the restaurant’s ethos, reflected in the sign at the bar: “Arrive as strangers, leave as friends.” Their passion for their craft and genuine connection with diners made the experience truly special.

The sushi, freshly sourced from around the world, was nothing short of exceptional. Every piece was a masterpiece, meticulously curated for peak flavor and texture. Not a single selection disappointed, each bite reaffirming the restaurant’s commitment to excellence. The unique atmosphere, coupled with unmatched service and world-class sushi, left us thoroughly impressed.

Had the pleasure of dining here twice in the last couple of months and as always each experience was unique and amazing. To say this gem is as good as it gets is an understatement!! From making a reservation to arriving and dining, every detail is taken care of. The flavor profiles used are creative and imaginative and your mouth explodes with the flavors. Each ingredient melds seamlessly with the next and the dish simply melts in your mouth. Chef Chris and Jay take great care of everyone dining with them, and now Josh is a great addition to the team. My latest dining experience here added to the wonderful experiences of my past visit. Josh and Chris were amazing hosts and on a birthday/father’s day week I could think of no place else to spend the time with family except here! It was the kickoff of their summer menu, and again they out did themselves. Each course unique and wonderful in its own right but leads to the next course and the next course creating the most perfect meal and dining experience. Each dish just melts in your mouth and the flavor combos are truly extraordinary. Chris’ culinary acumen is top notch, and Josh just makes the whole experience warm and welcoming....
