Pettibone is a nice looking establishment. It’s really open and spacious. I would say their specialty is coffee, with a very small breakfast/lunch menu w/ less than 10 food items combined. If you are looking for something other than coffee and tea to drink, look somewhere else because that is all they have, aside from water.
I went out of my comfort zone. For the drink, I tried a coffee drink that was called the purple haze. I can’t really recall all that was in it. It had some kind of lavender smoke, cold brew foam, and a lemon peel. The cold foam was good, but I didn’t get any lavender, but I did taste the lemon and it just left a bitter taste. I was not a fan of this drink. I also had the avocado toast which consisted of avocado mash, arugula, pickled onion, and dill atop a slice of sourdough. Adding an egg was optional. The guy assured me that they would cook the egg and not leave it runny, so I was satisfied w/ that and added the fried egg. I have to say that the sandwich was quite tasty. I appreciated that the arugula was dressed in a light vinaigrette and that the egg was already seasoned w/ a little salt and pepper. There was a nice amount of avocado on top and a nice twinge of acid from the pickled onions. Though I normally avoid it, I was forced to eat the crust of the sourdough or else I would not have been left which much bread, but I endured. Altogether it was a pretty good bite and I would order it again. Because the strawberry hibiscus muffin looked good, I also had that, but in the end was not impressed. There wasn’t much of a strawberry taste and the hibiscus left me feeling as though I was eating pumpernickel bread. All in all, Pettibone is a nice little find and worth a visit, especially if you are a coffee drinker since they grind their own beans. The prices were decent and the atmosphere is nice with really...
Read moreTHIS is the kind of coffee shop I feel Dayton has been missing. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Ghostlight, Warehouse 4 Coffee, Reza’s, and the many other fantastic local spots we have here — but one of the things I’ve always loved while traveling, particularly in places like St Petersburg, Austin or Vancouver is very open, bright modern spaces that are specifically designed and catered to remote working. There is power outlets everywhere, and the wifi is fast (consistently 100-150mbps). This is immensely important and over overlooked. While a lot of coffee shops almost discourage people from staying long, I’ve always seen this as a missed opportunity. The longer I stay, the more food and drinks I buy.
The coffee here is on point. I appreciate it’s sourced from small farms, roasted in house and they use local farms for their milk and cream. Considering the increased costs on their end I actually find their food and coffee to be very fairly priced. I typically just get black drip coffee and I love that it comes with an extra little carafe on the side as a refill.
I got the monte cristo sandwich this time and it was 🔥 a fantastic mix of savory, depth and subtle sweetness.
This is instantly going to be one of my go-to spots to work from on days I want a change of scenery from the home office. Definitely...
Read moreI’ve traveled to 39 states and have stopped at a coffee shop in every single one; sometimes many. I can honestly say that objectively this is my favorite. It’s clear from the moment you walk in and notice the laboratory level equipment and methodical operation behind the counter the significant dedication that goes in to producing magnificent artisan coffee. Beautiful roasts from fruity and floral to rich and bold offer something for any true coffee appreciator. But besides the coffee, Pettibone truly embraces the idea of a coffee shop taking you out of reality and into an experience. Set inside a reclaimed mechanic garage, I feel like I’ve walked out of suburban Ohio and into Brooklyn. If you’re staying a while, the pour over is the best way to experience what Pettibone has to offer along with surprisingly great handcrafted pastries. On the run? The outstanding barista team has no shortage of creative and classical espresso that will either sweeten or spice your day depending on your mood. My friend Joel and I discovered this place about 3 years ago while traveling for work and have made it a point to come visit every time we’re in Dayton. Thanks for being open; I’ll always support...
