I have frequented this place for years. I always order the Chicken Burrito California. I have not been here in a quite some time and ordered my usual and it was honestly the worst burrito I have ever had. It was all sour cream, horrid rice and lettuce there was a 4 inch string of shredded chicken, it's usually bursting with flavor. We also ordered chips and cheese dip and it was horrible, chips were stale unsalted so we returned the queso and exchanged it for gaucemole and it was definitely not fresh, tasted horrible, couldn't even eat it. My friend ordered 2 ground beef tacos and she says the cheese is not the same and they also did not taste like they usually do. I'm not sure if it was a bad day or if this place has lost it's authentic touch. They did give me a refund for my burrito as I couldn't even stomach it. Food took 20+ to come out. This is not a normal experience at this place by any means so I hope things are...

Today I made the worst decision of the year. "Let's order tacos from a different place. We always eat at Tacos Rojas, let's try tacos from a different restaurant." The fist bite into my taco I felt all of Elizabeth Küebler-Ross' 5 stages of grief. Denial: "it can't be that bad"; Anger: "how is this so awful!"; Bargaining: "the second bite will be better."; Depression: "I deserve this terrible taco"; And finally, acceptance: " I made a huge mistake". I am sorry Tacos Rojas, I won't make this mistake again. Songs will be sung of your salsa. Monuments of man making first contact with extraterrestrial life offering peace tacos. If I had a TR tamale everytime I had a TR tamale I would still not have enough TR tamale. People, don't make the same mistake I did. I have to live with this shame. You don't. Eat at Tacos Rojas and shout back at the existential void inside yourself,...

So glad to have found Tacos Rojas! I grew up in LA and spent the better part of the past decade in Charlottesville where I had found a few good taco spots, but being new to Roanoke, I have really been craving REAL tacos, and all happy to know they do exist!

I had three tacos (pollo, carnitas, & asada) that were wonderfully flavorful and filling as well. I prefer the classic style with just cilantro, onion and lime which is what they have. My fiance had the 'California' burrito (not sure why it's called that, but OMG, I have never seen a burrito of that size and he ate the entire thing and loved it.

Oh and the salsa... Wow! So so so delicious! I have a high tolerance for heat and the spicy red salsa not only has a kick, but is also incredibly flavorful! The mild and salsa verde are...

Tacos Rojas is definitely the type of taco joint I like to go to, a hole-in-the wall with authentic food. The place is small, but has a cool south-of-the border vibe. The service was great and they take pride in the presentation of the food. I looked at alot of the food going to other tables and it all looked delicious. I had a fish taco and a shrimp taco - both were flavorful, but I guess I was expecting a Baja-style fish taco - where the fish is fried. Both the red and green salsas were delicious. If I were in the area again, I would probably try Rojas again. I think everything was good, but nothing blew me away. Notes: There is plenty of parking in front of the building. The restroom is outside and around the corner - and definitely looks like an old gas station restroom. Be prepared.

My friend drove me all the way from Christiansburg just to try this place and it was absolutely worth the trip. We had the chicken birria tacos with a side of rice, and they were fantastic. The birria was juicy and flavorful, and the consommé they served on the side wasn’t just a thin broth, it was rich, full of chopped herbs, onions, and depth. Dipping the tacos in it took them to a whole new level. They also include two sauces on the side. The red one is very spicy, so I’d recommend trying just a little unless you’re used to high heat. The green one is milder and still tasty. Don’t forget to squeeze the lime over the tacos; it adds a fresh kick and brings everything together beautifully.
