Worst food I've had at a restaurant... my dad had never had Tom Ka soup (coconut soup) and I had been raving about the magical flavors the dish can offer from Legit Thai restaurants or even making it at home (its not hard!) So i ordered that straight away as it said required 20 min to make. We made our selections from the menu and waited minuets before she took our order (red curry tofu, pad thai chicken, cranberry curry duck) Shortly later our soup came... and I knew as soon as i saw the white broth that it wasnt gonna be good. What we recieved was something like someones bad and literal interpretation of "coconut soup." All it was, was warm coconut milk, basic vegetables, and tofu. No spices, no lime, no fish sauce, no lemon grass... No Flavor. Nothing. I was so embarrassed especially because this was a $14 dish!!! It should have been $5, if that... oh and ya know how i mentioned we wanted to share it? Well it came out in 1 bowl but she did come back with 2 for us to split between ourselves awkwardly... We suffered through the "coconut soup" because we were hungry then stacked our bowls to be collected. Finally my thai iced tea came (which was the only good thing we had) but the waitress didn't collect the bowls... we waited. Then she came with just the red curry dish with chicken... my vegitation dad was appalled. So... we waited another 15 minutes for Just the pad thai. We waited 2 minutes, expecting the next two dishes to come. Nope. So my fiance started to eat. He said the sauce was extremely overpowering, oddly flavored, and super soggy. He could only eat the chicken which was warm with cold parts (probly sat out after the mix up) finally when our currys came out (2 min after another) we told her to take the bowls as they were STILL uncollected as well as the Pad Thai cuase it was disgusting and inedible. We also expressed how poor the soup was... I shared my cranberry duck curry with my fiance as he had nothing to ear. The currys flavor was ok. Nothing special. At least there was spice and flavor. But the duck.. yuck 😭 it was spongy and icky. So we didn't even eat that. Just so dissapointed... The service was slow ontop of everything. I had to get the 3rd set of silverware myself. $58 for everything. Waste of money. I could have made better food at home. I'm angry with myself for not demanding the nasty pad thai and nasty duck removed from the bill. THIS IS NOT A GOOD REPRESENTATION OF THAI FOOD 😡

Edit: After calling to let them know how bad it was and being told I was wrong, that no one else complains, and being offered no refund, credit, or better food, I'm changing this to 1 star. Not sure what happened to treating others with respect and kindness, but I was the only respectful, kind person in any of the 5 interactions I had with the people of this place today. Lived nearby for almost 6 years now and had never tried this place so decided to treat myself tonight. I usually order from Jasmine/Karta Thai which is always perfect and delicious, but chose to take a chance on Mai Thai. I really hate to do this because it's a small, local business and seems to be family owned and run. However, I paid $35 for unflavored rice basically. When I called to order, a young-sounding, irritated to have to be working, voice took my order and didn't have any customer service type niceties at all. I kind of felt like I was bugging them by calling. The Shaking Beef tastes literally like little chunks of beef with soy sauce on them. No other flavors I could pick up, and the huge majority of the styrofoam container is "fried" rice. The rice also has no flavor. I got Thai Fried Rice as well and it also has almost no flavor at all. I got an order of spring rolls and for some reason they were fried and not fresh as I asked for. However, although I'm not usually a fan of fried spring rolls, these are pretty good and flavorful! (Which is why the two stars and not just one.) The "peanut sauce" for them is just fish sauce with chopped up peanuts in it though. I am super disappointed for multiple reasons. I really wanted it to be good because money is a bit tight and I don't get to order Thai often, but also, I wanted to support and promote a small local business. I'm just bummed and now have to figure out another dinner option. Flavorless rice isn't gonna cut it.

I recently had unfortunate experience of dining Mai Thai. My vist was marred by several issues that i cannot overlook. To begin with, i found hair in both rice and appetizer. This not only compromise the taste and presentation of the dishes but also raised concerns about hygiene practices within the restaurant. It was disheartening to encounter this problem multiple times during my meal. Moreover, the water served at my table contained an unknown material. When I brought it to the attention of the waitress, her response, claiming it was "minerals" was unsatisfactory. Transparency and assurance regarding the saftety of food and beverages are crucial, and thid incident left me feeling uneasy. Aside from these hygiene concerns, the food itself was average. The lack of distinct flavors and creative flair left much to be desired. Considering the recurrence of the hair incidents, they offered $4 (one thai tea) discount felt inadequate and did not address the underlying problem.

We live in the north suburbs area and have passed this restaurant several times and have wanted to try it. We decided to go tonight as pre-birthday date for my husband's birthday tomorrow. Our plan was to get something small and then go here for a birthday lunch with the family. Sadly we were very very disappointed. Upon entering we were given menus and told to find our own table (Honestly I couldn't understand what the server was saying but that's my best guest) We sat at a booth and waited for more than 20 minutes with no service. No one came to apologize for the wait. NOTHING! The restaurant had it's share of customers as well as customers waiting on to go orders but it was far from being that crowded for how we were treated. As we contemplated whether to leave or not a family of three came in and seated themselves at a booth near us. Within 5 minutes they were served beverages. What was even more disappointing is this was a white family. I had hope that this being an Asian restaurant there would not be this kind of issue as we were not the only people of color there. My hope is that we were just forgotten about and not being racist. At this point we walked out. No one was at the front to stop us. No one came. It's very sad as there menu looked very appetizing and inviting. Unfortunately we will not be coming back to this restaurant again. I'm not one who likes to give bad reviews but hopefully this restaurant will learn to treat all people with the high service that were mention in other reviews. I"m force on this review to give a star for it to be posted but I would not give this...
