It’s an adequate eatery that serves raw fish dishes, BUT THIS IS NOT JAPANESE, NOT by any culinary or gustatory criteria, NOR by any stretch of the imagination.
It’s a smorgasbord for raw fish dishes, which they claim as “sushi” BUT IT FAILS TO STANDARD OF WHAT SUSHI IS.
The rice used is the common American white short grain rice that lacks taste NOT the Japonica varieties that are more flavorful medium or large grain with slight sticky texture.
The slices of fish are too thin, most of the “sushi” is rice!
The one they call “crab” or “Kani” sushi is NOT crab but the fake factory-made one 😡😡😡 that has not have pinch crabmeat. THIS IS DECEPTION AND A CULTURAL SLUR.
Then there’s the myriad list of “rolls”, the majority of it are NOT wrapped in Nori.
— many have cheese, which is NEVER an ingredient of real Sushi.
— the worst is that they are doused with sauces that kill the flavor of fresh fish.
REAL SUSHI IS SIMPLE CLEAN FRESH SLICES of fish served on a small dab of warm rice and an array of vegetable garnishes. —- It takes skill and an artistic flair!!!
*That said, some of the rolls have good flavor WITHOUT THE SAUCES; FREE FROM CHEESE and NOT CONTAINING THAT HORRIBLE FAKE CRAB.
READ the fine print of the menu as to what’s in those rolls AND THEN CHOOSE WISELY for some little enjoyment of raw fish dinner😎😎😎.
SOME RECOMMENDATIONS: **Seaweed salad and octopus salad **Shrimp and vegetables tempura **Shrimp Shumai, very packed, good tasting dumpling BUT this is NOT JAPANESE ** Rolls: Rainbow, Hokkaido and, despite the horrid name, Spicy Girl
😃SURPRISE: “Sashimi” can be ordered for additional charge. These are large chunks of fish that are inelegantly served on top of lettuce leaves… Like the large slices BUT presentation does not meet the standard of Japanese Sashimi.
🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢NOT RECOMMENDED: the so-called Kitchen Entrees, none are Japanese too much use of sweet sauce oily sugary sauces especially what they call “teriyaki”, which likely is poured from a factory-made bottle mixed into boiled vegetables or fried meats before they are served.
The wine lists are cheap Californias though they are...
Read moreSushi Bomb was pretty, bomb! (Pun intended)
So as I was walking up to the door from the parking lot, I almost changed my mind and went to the sports bar next door. Although I’m still curious about that place, I am happy I stuck with my original decision to try Sushi Bomb.
At first I thought I’d regret my decision, as the hostess at the front was kinda off putting and seemed like she was mad I walked in the door (early dinner time, maybe 5-6ish?), but the man next to her, who seemed like maybe the manager or owner, seemed a lot more friendly. Once I was seated, the service was much better, given the traffic at the time. I think I could have gotten a few more stops at the table for more food orders, water, or beer, but she was very friendly, helpful, and also busy with lots of tables.
The food quality at all you can eat option places can be spotty and VERY hit or miss… lucky for me, this was a hit! I had some appetizers from the all you can eat menu like the jalapeño yellowtail and the pepper tuna, both tasted fresh and delicious. I think the dot of sriracha on the yellow tail should be replaced with maybe a dot of a soy/wasabi paste mix instead, as the sriracha’s fermented flavor overpowered the fish flavor.
I also got a Sapporo; can came ice cold 😍
Also had a few rolls. Spicy tuna (my go to, baseline for any sushi place) was very good. Nothing special, but hit the spot. I got a couple other specialty rolls that were also very good, but am blanking on the names. I will update my review with the names after looking at the menu again.
I think in general, like most sushi places, the menu options are the same for you more “mainstream” type rolls: dynamite, rainbow, etc. but also like others, they have their own special rolls. Each having their own spin compared to other places.
Overall, great option for hungry sushi lovers! Will be back on...
Read moreI’ve been coming here for well over a year now. It’s my favorite spot. The food is usually always good and I’ve never had a complaint. Today I went in and ordered my usual, crab Rangoon and 3 mango rolls. Crab Rangoon was delicious as always, but when my sushi came out I had a few issues. There was a piece of something on top of a few of the rolls, dark pieces of I don’t know what mixed into the rice itself, and a lot of the avocado was straight up blackened. I honestly feel bad about complaining about food. I respectfully asked the waitress if I could get a remake because I know that’s not usual. She saw everything I saw and literally gasped and said absolutely. Next thing I know the, who I assume, was the manager, came back with my plate and started saying that it was only a few pieces so it’s not a big deal. I straight up had to re pick through it and show him my concern. He was so disrespectful, saying “we’re not giving you free food” that’s not what I asked for. Then he said he would only bring each roll out one by one so I can make sure everything’s okay. I’ve never been so harassed in my life let alone as a customer. Then, he came back over to tell me I can’t eat my crab Rangoon the way that I was. I was absolutely horrified and could not believe my ears. I told him to stop harassing me as me and my friend were just trying to enjoy our dinner. He was waving his hands around my crab Rangoon so much to the point I told him “ get your hands out of my food” I genuinely can’t even believe this happened it felt like a fever dream. (My parents know how often I come here that they bought me a $120 gift card for Christmas) I attached an image of how the roll typically looks at the bottom and how there’s no weird red spots or weird goop on the side. (I also have a video of him arguing with me about it but it won’t let me attach videos...
