The food is missing that Caribbean pizzaz. Not my favorite
Yuca/cheese sticks -- on their own are extremely bland not lightly salted, or anything. The cilantra crema would be better as a cilantro-lime-pineapple relish. The Siracha sauce just missed the mark for me, too creamy.
Child's mac n cheese -- forget about your kids mac n cheese wildly colored orange... but without it, your mind has to first do gymnastics to determine if this is creamy alfredo or a sharper cheese sauce... it could use a touch of black pepper or something.
Stuffed plantain (w meat) -- first its SALTY. So, I approach non-familial dishes w an open mind. The majority of the dish is yellow rice (much like SALTY Mahatma saffron rice from the foil pouch puchased at a grocer) the top 1/8 layer is a thin ground meat layer with a very mild kick a bit reminicent of curry, overall reminds me exactly of meat pie (empanada) filling, but SALTY. The plantain is as you'd expect, soft but holding its shape, with its familiar very sweet flavor. SALTY Black bean sauce would have been better, nearly pureed, w tortilla chips. .....Id love to see the dish re-imagined with a simpler less-salty rice with black beans and a touch of sweet yellow raisins, topped with the meat sauce... maybe 3 pieces of sliced & fried plantain on the side. (The chips on the side, which Im normally a fan of, were oddly rubbery in the to-go box.)
Other reviews comment that the adult drinks are a hit, but maybe not the food... I skipped the alcohol and got a simple diet Coke, which was delightfully not SALTY compared to the...
Read moreThis national chain has been around for a long time and features supposedly Caribbean-themed foods. We went there with a large groups for a birthday celebration and made reservations in advance. To make sure we would get in, we selected a 5 PM slot, in other words really early for a dinner.
We all got there on time and then waited. The place was not full, but the front end staff got confused. There was another party of 9 who came in without reservations and they gave them our table. Then, they realized their mistake, but it was too late for us, so we had to wait until other parties cleared out and two tables could be put together for our party.
The menu was disappointing. Three quarters of it is for drinks. Only one quarter is for food. Amongst the edibles, most of them were standard American dishes with maybe a bit of pineapple thrown in, or a tricked-up name (Chicken and Waffles, for instance, was called Chicken and Johnny Cakes). We tried getting items that were not standard, so no burgers and the like. The dishes we got were mostly decent and one stood out for being exceptionally good. This was the Snapper!
Also really good was the server team led by Mahi who was all over our table and took great care of us. We mentioned to him that we were celebrating one birthday so he arranged for a slice of cake to be presented to the celebrant. Very...
Read moreWon't go back. Went here for the first time. My daughters shrimp and steak dinner was delivered cold. My burger came out pitch black and very crusty on both sides that I couldn't tell if it was a burger or a piece of charcoal. I sent it back. Once again, it was black on both sides and very crusty. I mentioned to someone I wasn't sending it back a third time because kitchen staff gets ticked off enough when something comes back once, highly irritated a second time and I was afraid someone would spit in it. The person I said this to actually said (and I QUOTE) "Yeah, they would." YEAH THEY WOULD????? wow! Well if the food was cooked right the FIRST time, I wouldn't have sent it back at all. I tried picking off the burnt part but that only tore the burger up so I gave up. It was comped off my ticket but still I left without eating anything but the fries. Nice mothers day dinner huh?? (but our server was great! She did a fantastic job; after all, she wasn't the one in the kitchen pretending they know how to cook.) One the way home, I stopped at McDonald's and got nuggets and my husband got 2 cheeseburgers. Not only did we not have to wait 45 minutes for our food, but it was cooked right; nothing was sent back. Maybe the person doing the cooking at Bahama Breeze tonight should take cooking lessons from the...
