We generally try to avoid hibachis and restaurants that try to be too many things at once (are we a sushi restaurant? Chinese takeout? Thai?), and would probably not have stepped into Shogun except our neighbors raved about it and suggested our families going together during spring break. We agreed knowing that we were in for a night of greasy and subpar fare, but we thought we could put up with it since we would get to hang out with our friends. Unfortunately, the good company wasn't quite enough to make up for the horrible service we received this night, let alone the terrible food, even worse than most restaurants of its kind, if possible! Our waitress, when we were able to get her attention, didn't seem to know the menu and what selections they had to offer. She forgot my husband's soup and our neighbor's rice despite us calling for it several times. I can't speak for my neighbors' food -- they ordered two Thai dishes -- but my daughters' sushi rolls were unappealingly limp and gray, made with obviously too-mushy rice (a big no-no when it comes to sushi). My ten year old spit her sushi into the napkin because it tasted "wrong, somehow"...but I made her finish because it cost $11 and I wasn't going to dump any more money into this place. My husband ordered yakisoba...thinking how could they mess up fried noodles, but somehow, they managed to give him a plate of overcooked soba that tasted a little like curry but was otherwise flavorless. My own dish was disastrous. I guess it's my own darn fault to order something of the Chinese takeout variety, but there's a level of consistency that I have come to expect from Chinese takeout places. Yes, they are greasy and bad for you, but generally they taste pretty good going down. My mess of the dish, however, was salty and flavorless at the same time (possibly they only used salt and soy sauce to season it). I offered some to my poor daughter with her "wrong, somehow" roll, but she took a bite and shook her head. Again, maybe all this would be forgivable if service was better...or if service sucked but the food was good. Instead we had to suffer thru both AND be forced to pay the already-added too for the lousy service. No return...
Read moreFood is great, but the service is AWFUL. Our server spoke no English and we couldn't understand her. She couldn't understand us. She had no idea what Chardonnay was and kept saying it was only available by the bottle even though it was listed as by the glass in the menu. Only half of us got our drinks. It took 45 minutes just for all of us to get our drinks. They only had one server and she had no sense of urgency. We almost walked out when they finally came out to cook our food on the hibachi. 4 other groups were also waiting forever and 3 of them walked out because after 30 minutes no one had even taken their drink order. At the end of the meal I had to grab our own take out boxes for our leftovers and then our server wouldn't split up the bill for us and added an automatic 18% gratuity. The owner really needs to hire a better waitstaff and needs to be present to help until things get better. It would be a shame for a place with such good food to go out of business because of...
Read moreMy suggestion stay away. Not worth your time not worth your money. Got a Groupon read the fine print about the 18% didn't realize they're going to charge me for the whole meal not the 18% after the 60 for the Groupon so actually it cost me more money to use the Groupon.. put it on Groupon as a service charge put it on the bill is gratuity and I'm not just saying this because of that the service was hideous horrible they couldn't speak English they didn't understand anything they got everything wrong me and my wife and child and the other two couples we had no idea who they were we just met him there we were sat with them all agreed we would never set foot in this place again everything was rosh their food was Bland not well seasoned the teriyaki sauce they put on the chicken was revolting nobody would eat it. We had to ask for everything he cooked all the food and then offered the sauces for the food after he was done and leaving. So do yourself a favor go...
