Let me start by saying that the service we received from a young lady today was truly 5 star quality. They don't wear name tags, so she will remain anonymous. We ordered hot tea for our beverages. The tea was served very hot (good) in cups without handles or a thermal barrier of any kind (very bad). However, our excellent server found proper tea cups in the back. (Apparently, someone in management recently made the questionable decision to switch to cups without handles and I'm not the first customer to express their dismay and concern). At the end of the day, it's just not appropriate. We ordered the shrimp tempura and vegetables appetizer which was very good, however it was served with a tempura sauce whose chief ingredient is soy sauce. While there were other ingredients, it tasted like I was dipping my fried shrimp into a bowl of soup. I've eaten at several sushi restaurants across the country and I've never had a shrimp dipping sauce so high in salt content. The large rolls we ordered were tasty. However, I was very surprised and disappointed to see either crab (imitation) or crab salad as the most common ingredients in virtually all of the large rolls. Apparently, these are being used in place of fresh carrots, cucumber, and small slices of avocado which are the most common ingredients you normally see in the center of a large roll along side of a protein. If it weren't for the cups that can easily burn someone, I would have given them 3 stars. However, I will not be returning. I don't particularly care for imitation crab in my rolls and I shouldn't have to ask that it be substituted. My personal...
Read moreThis place came highly recommended to me by a friend who knows how critical I am about sushi. I Doordashed a couple of rolls to get a taste before deciding whether or not to dine-in on the next go. Unfortunately, I was incredibly disappointed. First of all, they up-charged me for substituting out cream cheese for cucumbers over a dollar. I've never had a sushi restaurant charge me for substituting with Cucumber.
I noticed that the vast majority of their rolls have no balance of texture. If you stuff a big roll with nothing but soft ingredients, you end up with a mushy roll. That's fine for small rolls like a salmon roll, but I despise when they do that to large rolls. Add some cucumber or something crunchy to balance the texture. Also, a lot of their rolls have cream cheese. I just don't get the obsession with cream cheese in sushi.
The sushi rice was also barely seasoned, if at all. Sushi rice should have a vinegar base. The rice should be tasty all on it's own. I'm glad I didn't order a rice dish like Chirashi or I would've been even more upset. This also tells me that their nigiri won't be good. Their rolls also have too much rice on them. That's a tactic born from sushi buffets to fill patrons up on rice so they grab less. I don't like seeing that in a ala carte sushi restaurant.
The one saving grace are the sauces. The sauces that were on my rolls were delicious. It's a crying shame the rest of it was not. Maybe I'll give them another shot, see if they do things like upcharge for cucumber substitution when I'm actually sitting there. Anyway, thanks for...
