BAUS — Restaurant in Rochester

What has happened to this spot! This used to be our favorite neighborhood hang out. We have been going there since they opened! It used to be chill and super friendly. It has turned into a Completely different animal!!! Upon arriving the hostess told us we needed a reservation otherwise it was going to be a 40 minute wait... which is fine.... But since when do bars take reservations to get into the bar??? I always thought a bar was first come first serve... unless you bought bottle service... I don't know maybe I'm just old school. This was never the case all the other times we had been there... but again it was fine... We gave her our name and went somewhere else until they called and we came back. As she sat us she told us we had a 90min time Limit. Again in the past when we have gone there this has never been the case. But we said OK fine and order drinks. We were ordering drink after drink shot tray after shot tray spending lots of money... I had just ordered a $30 drink and not even 10 minutes later our waiter came up to us and told us our 90 minutes was up and she was going to have to bring us the bill.. ok fine... But mind you I still had a full drink I had to finish so we paid the bill and we were trying to finish our drinks that she had just put down.. Then the owner came up to us and told us we had to leave because our time is up.. we said we know we're finishing our drinks but he still was giving us a hard time... which now to me is not fine! ....this is just bad business sense... we are consistently ordering cocktails and they where expensive cocktails why in the world would you shut our tab off and make us leave??? If we went stagnant in that 90 minutes and were slowing down and not ordering drinks I could see you doing that but that was definitely not the case. Now you have just lost not only customers to the bar but my husband who has standing appointments in the salon will no longer be coming back. The friends we were with there were planning on having a private party here in March which they will no longer be doing. So now you've just lost good faithful patrons of your bar and salon. I hope your 90min...

First let me specify that I’m reviewing the barber experience! I’m sure the bar part is wonderful from other reviews and images, but I’ve yet to try it.

Anyway, I’ve been coming to BAUS for a little over 6 months now, and every haircut I get is fantastic. I was paired up with Sophie by chance the first time I booked, and lucked out because she was excellent. She knew what to do, asked for input from me throughout the haircut, and confirmed along the way if I liked how it was turning out. Conversation also went well, and never forced. So if you’re a bit introverted like myself, have no fear of being uncomfortable!

Since I really liked that first cut, I’ve booked with Sophie each time since. Every haircut I get improves on the last, adding tweaks here and there as we learn along the way. I have fine hair, yet a lot of it, and it grows in multiple directions. So needless to say it’s a slight challenge to look right and the learning experience is really appreciated. Sophie is also excellent in receiving feedback from my last cut and asking how I liked things.

I’ve been to many salons and barbers over the years as I went to college, traveled around for work, and finally ending up here on MI. This is by far the best barber I’ve been to! Overall I highly recommend both...
