South Street Skateshop — Local services in Rochester

I’ve purchased two boards here. The first one was my first ever skateboard so I could start learning how to skate.

I was looking to start learning on a long board and the owners and staff were really supportive and understood that I was a newbie when It came to choosing a brand and the right hardware. Some of the staff are very experienced skaters and at no point did they make me feel embarrassed that I didn’t know much about what to get in terms of hardware.

A year later, after putting hundreds of hours on my first board, doing research and finding out what I like in terms of a board and ride style I came back in May 2017 for my second board. At this point I knew a lot more about how different boards ride and the difference between the better and lesser hardware. I came in and decided to get a top mount Land Yacht. The staff was even more supportive even with all the knowledge I obtained they still showed me and explained to me things I did not know. I was looking for a board that rides better down hill at high speeds and they set me up with the best hardware that would suit that ride style.

We walked into this shop while touring downtown Rochester on the evening of November 23rd. The sign outside said "No Beverages" we walked in nibbling on a small chocolate caramel from Saunders right down the street. One of the two women behind the counter immediately yelled at us "No food, we don't allow food!" I replied "I'm sorry, the sign just said no beverages so we didn't know" to which she replied, rather harshly and condescendingly "Well we thought that was implied." It felt like she was trying to shame us. She did not offer to assist us at all while wondering around this incredibly over priced shop. I wrote a 5 Star review years ago when my boys were younger and got their first skateboard and had a birthday party at the old skatepark. I’m back here to write another. Nothing has changed. The owners and workers are the NICEST most HELPFUL people ever! My son is older now but wants to get back into skateboarding. They are just genuinely friendly people. We considered buying his board online, but am glad we chose to come in. I love supporting small businesses that have great customer service and products. We love South...
