We had family visiting from out-of-town for the holidays, and we wanted to treat them to a meal out, but we struggled with where to go because our ages ranged from 3 to 62. Based mainly on its menu and its location, we chose Hobo’s, which turned out to be the right choice for a special evening, thanks to one person – our server, Harper.
Our three-year-old granddaughter is blessed with an outgoing personality, and as soon as Harper approached our table to greet us and take our drink order, our granddaughter immediately struck up a conversation with Harper asking, “How old are you?” Harper did not miss a beat, willingly sharing her age, but in return asking our granddaughter what her name was, and then, “What’s YOUR age?” After having exchanged names and ages with our granddaughter, Harper left to get our drinks, having ALREADY made a lasting impression on our table.
When Harper returned with our drinks, she got to know our granddaughter a little better, asking where she was from. Her parents answered for her, telling Harper they were from Texas. Well, this revelation initiated another lengthy conversation between Harper and our granddaughter, with Harper sharing she had a brother living in Texas (big state, small world!).
While some restaurants offer crayons to children, Harper brought our granddaughter some stickers, which THRILLED her, and even further endeared Harper to us. Harper was not only sweet and thoughtful to our granddaughter, but she was also attentive to the needs of the adults at the table. Harper even offered to move us when the singer’s volume began to drown out our conversation, which was the only slightly negative aspect of our dining experience. [Note to Hobo’s: When booking singers, for the sake of your patrons, please be mindful that we are there to eat and socialize, so please adjust the volume, accordingly. Thank you!]
At the end of the evening, we made sure that Harper knew how much we appreciated the time she took with our granddaughter. Likewise, Harper was complimentary about the interactions she had with our family, saying how much she enjoyed serving us.
Cementing the wonderful dining experience we had had at Hobo’s (thanks to Harper), as we were exiting the restaurant, Harper emerged from the kitchen with an entire PAGE of stickers for our granddaughter! I don’t know who was more surprised by this final sweet gesture by Harper – our granddaughter or her family, but we were all appreciative!
Post-COVID, we have found that dining out has been a hit-or-miss experience, but on this night, Harper was a HUGE hit, and her efforts made it just the evening we had hoped for with our Texas family. And while our meals were tasty and filling, it was Harper who made it a night...
Read moreFirst time here at the new location. We wanted to wait for the hype of newness to settle and for the staff to work out the kinks. Upon entry, we were greeted and seated. It seemed like an average sized crowd, not really busy but not dead either. It's a nice looking establishment inside. We had high hopes. It took about 10 minutes for a waitress to come over. She took our beer order; then about 15-20 minutes later, the drinks showed up. She took our order at that time. Wifey had the Black & Blue burger with fries; I had the Mack & Mack burger with Cajun fries. The food arrived fast! So fast, in fact, that we were wondering if they already had the order sitting for someone else. There was no way it was cooked for us. The burgers had to have been sitting. They were dried out and only warm. The bun was crusty. Wifey's fries were warm, but overcooked, dry, and crunchy. My fries were also only warm and dry and mostly pieces of fries. The quality at this location is no where in comparison to the old Fort Mill location. To top it off, our waitress never came by to check on us. When she did come, she had the bill. She never asked us anything, left the bill, and walked away. It was some young girl, probably an untrained HS summer higher. We just looked at each other and agreed that we'll never go to that location again. There are just too many better options to drive 20 minutes out of our way for that disaster of a meal. I also wish they had more Carolina Craft Beer on tap, to help support local breweries. If you like Carolina Craft Beer and supporting local, consider joining Carolina Breweries Club on Facebook Groups. We only promote Carolina-made Craft Beer, Wine, and Spirits. And stick to Hobo's in Fort Mill, at least until this location becomes known for better food and service. Both of these were extremely lacking at...
Read more15 years of restaurant experience under my belt, and I can say this place has twice been a total let down. We arrive at 6:30 pm Sat 3/25/23. 45 minute wait... OK no big deal that's not bad. They call us up. We go up the hostesses barely acknowledge us and we wait another 10 minutes. They take us to our table (party of 4) and there's 2 chairs... hmm ok haha. They bring us 2 more chairs and I sit down to realize there's 1/4 missing out of one of the legs (think see saw SMH). We wait another 10 minutes at least before the waitress even comes to the table. Drinks and apps come in a decent time... so we're getting on the right track right???? 15 minutes go by and finally she starts taking our order. She starts with my wife and half way thru my wife ordering she says and I quote "Hold on I gotta go check on this other table" and abruptly walks off. 10 or so minutes later she returns to finish taking our order. We order and off we go. I have to flag her down for refills while we wait. My food arrives and only 2 items out of the 6 items ordered on my chicken (pathetic chicken breast FYI) sandwich are there (missing one cheese, mushrooms, mayo, and bacon). She fixes it and we eat. She brings our check, we pay. She comes back and says she gave us the wrong bill and we have to pay again. I ask for the void slip, she brings it. Then we have to pay again. All in all a terrible experience. I get being busy. But the waitress constantly gave excuses and talked badly about the restaurant which sends me red flags. They have sub par food and service. I wouldn't recommend and will definitely never spend a dime there ever again. Visit at...
