We were really excited to try the food. I received an email stating that I had a welcome offer for $10 off but it never loaded in the app. The cashier stated she wasn't familiar with the app at all and although I had the email, she didn't know how to apply it. I ordered anyway... a 12pc family meal mixed chicken with mac and cheese, campero beans, and rice. We also ordered 2 single empanadas and one Jamaica juice. We opted for rolls instead of tortillas. It didn't take long to receive our order but upon checking the food, I noticed the side of beans was mostly liquid. I was told it came that way although it definitely is not marketed as such. The cashier offered me a second helping which was also mostly liquid. My daughter counted the chicken but failed to mention they placed mostly chicken legs in our box. For a $40.75 chicken meal, I should have received equal parts breasts, wings, thighs, and legs OR at the very least be informed that something was out then offered substitutions. 2/4 of our family doesn't eat dark meat so we were left with skimpy options. It's also worth noting that our "large" sides were only 3/4 full. The fried chicken was dry and obviously had been cooked earlier. It tasted like old Chinese chicken. The mac and cheese tasted exactly like KFC's. We mixed the very bland rice with the bean liquid to give it some flavor. The Jamaica juice tasted like it was just cranberry juice. The empanadas were tiny and unsavoring. I ended up playing over my food before just eating the dinner roll and throwing my plate away. Based on my experience, I wouldn't return nor recommend...
Read moreThyme It's not the most prevalent spice in Latin cuisine. In fact, it's rare that you would even taste it. But thyme has been well incorporated into both the fried, and roasted chicken served at Pollos Camperos. I've never heard of pollos camperos, until today. And since it was right next door to my hotel, I decided I would stop in and give it a try. I ordered 4 pieces of chicken. Two fried and two baked. And my two sides were coleslaw and beans. I also ordered two empanadas, which only come in chicken flavor. Both the roasted and fried chicken were delicious! But I think the roasted chicken was better than the fried. But not by much. Both were moist, juicy, and delicious. My personal opinion is that the thyme flavor just goes better with roasted chicken then it does with fried. The beans were very basic. Not a lot of flavoring. If they had added celery seed to the coleslaw, it would have tasted exactly like KFC. The role was just basic. I thought it was going to be Hawaiian bread, but ........ And the empanadas were delicious! Maybe not the best i've ever had. But they were excellent! Overall this meal was delicious. While being completely different than anything i've ever had before. Definitely worth a try. I would suggest that you don't go in expecting typical fried or...
Read moreI've eaten here a couple of times now so it's definitely not a bad place to eat. The grilled chicken is by far the best offering on the menu. I keep trying other items, but they just don't measure up by comparison. The fried chicken is also juicy but doesn't have near the amount of flavor as the grilled. The empanadas were just meh. When I order sides like fries they didn't seem fresh and the yuca I got was overcooked. The rice is alright, the Mac is pretty basic. Plantains are good.
What really upset me was when I ordered a two piece and when I checked the order, there was no chicken in sight (always checked your order before you leave) . They seemed puzzled when I brought this to their attention (language issue?) but they did finally get the issue corrected.
Overall, it's a pretty average chicken joint that's being held back by a few quality control and customer...
