Very disappointed and used to love their quality of food and their friendly atmosphere, but enough is enough and this is the last time out of several where I felt either cheated on purpose or by mistake, but regardless do not want to have to have a debate every time I order several bagels and a salad. Their staff and owners are nice, very friendly and always smiling, the bagels are great, but not the only shop around, so here are all the minuses and I will take my business elsewhere, since I just don't have time to go through this every time I need a few things.
One time, I came in around 12 which is still early enough and asked for my usual several bagels and egg salad for the family. The response was that someone took all of it first thing in the morning. Well, ok, but since you are running the business isn't it up to you to just make more, since there is still plenty of day left and I came in about 3 hours after this "unfortunate" incident. So I said, no problem, and instead of letting it go, the owner starts to push tuna and white fish salad which he claims are fresh. I said, no thank you, but he keeps repeating it, which was nice, but extremely annoying, considering my time is limited and i just wanted to get my bagels and go.
Another time, his wife, who is also very nice, weather by mistake or not, decided to charge me the same per pound for the egg salad as she already punched in for lox spread. I don't know their prices, but I know that those are usually different per pound and when I asked, aren't they different, her response was "same price", which I let go which to later find out that of course it is not. Felt cheated, but since the food was good and the service is friendly, I let it go.
Today was the last draw and I encountered what I dreaded. We got some bagels, lox spread and couple of containers of egg salad. The person who was helping me was nice and actually looked up prices for both items and changed the scale per pound price. We get home and when I tried the egg salad, it was sour. Not just old, but actually very old and very bad. I am usually not jumping to conclusions and decided to just go and get my money back. When I came in and told the owner that it is sour and I just want my money back, his first response was friendly and he said that he is making it more and fresh. Nice, but I already didn't want any egg salad politely declined. Then he went to ask how much I wanted back, so I said just weigh what I brought and give me what it is worth. I see him put amount in the scale which was lower than what I was charged per pound. I asked him, since this was getting again to be one of those "I didn't know" moments and he asked the guy who originally helped me, who pointed to the price list on their side. I said, you are the owner, you should know this, to which was still trying to figure things out and he did apologize for the salad, but not for the fact that he should know his own prices or at least know where to look it up. So when I took my money, he ones again does the annoying thing that he knew was already overdone and just made me more angry about the whole experience, he offers to make more salad, basically claiming that I will eventually purchase a good batch today. I don't want their salad, I don't want their bagels, I don't want to deal with this ever again and I just don't have time to go through checking prices and making sure that I am paying what I am supposed to and getting fresh food. Enough. Thanks, but no thanks. In today's busy schedule, let me go somewhere where they will get it right from the first attempt and charge me for the correct products and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen I first moved to town (from somewhere else in NJ), I was looking for a really good spot for bagels and breakfast sandwiches, and this place definitely fits the bill. Their bagels are great and the breakfast sandwiches are amazing! They also have all different flavors of homemade cream cheese for the sandwiches - even really unique flavors; my husband and I have tried several of them and have been more than pleased every time so far. Moreover, the owners are really great, friendly, caring and courteous people who will go the extra mile to make their customers happy.
Prices are average and on-par with the standard market prices for the products that are sold. They take credit cards and don't bother you with annoying credit card minimums. Physically, the inside of the store could afford to have some updates and isn't very large, but they do have a few small tables for anyone that plans to eat inside the store. Personally, I prefer to take my orders to-go and eat them at home though...this is probably the only negative aspect I can think of when it comes to Bagelicious, but again, the inside of the store isn't much different than what you'd expect from any average bagel shop/bakery/sandwich shop/donut shop, so I don't really hold this against them.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Bagelicious to anyone -- and if you're looking for a good bagel or sandwich in the Rockaway area, you should definitely...
