Ok. I usually never complain about local business and my family eats out at local rockaway restaurants daily.....but I need to make what happened to my family today known. My kids wanted McDonald's so we went threw drive through. My husband and I were undecided....but then while driving past redhut diner saw the tables set up outside and decided to get out food from them. We were the only ones there and did not see any employees outside so he put a mask on and went inside. My husband said there was a man inside talking to all employees without a mask. My husband hesitated and asked if they were open the man said yes and that he was just leaving.... mean while my kids and I went to a table to wait for him to come out with our food. My kids did have McDonald's food with them as well. While we were eating the food purchased at redhut dinner, the owner came outside and told us that we could not be on her property with McDonald's, she stood about 1 foot from myself and my son with NO Mask on. I asked her to please back up from us, and she said she did not need to have a mask on outside. And the proceeded to touch and move our food bags around when I told her we were eating food bought at her diner. She then walked away. My husband was on a phone call during this transaction. After hanging up he put his mask on and went to speak to owner regarding the transaction that just took place. He tried to explain that since his father just died from covid we were uncomfortable being approached by unmasked people ect. And the owner said that another customer was "OFFENDED" by our mcdonalds bag, and the we needed to get off of her property and if we ever returned she would call the police on us.....we were shocked by her behavior and I highly recommend that you avoid this diner in town if you want to remain protected from covid. other small business owners deserve our hard earned money but not this one.....she also stated that if we put this on social media she would respond so hopefully she does. But I can't not see how she can defend her behavior. Edit: Unfortunately the owner responded below and claims that we were trespassing and asked us to leave but that is clearly false since we purchased our food from their establishment and stated That the problem was the extra mess that my sons 1 little box of chicken nuggets added. But let me add that I cleaned the table completely prior to leaving. I am not a disrespectful person. Up until this we had been regular customers of theirs. Purchasing food at least 3 times a week. Im glad they are doing so much business that they won't miss ours. And for them to say they didn't have to wear a mask because we were trespassing is...
Read moreA friend and I recently tried out the Red Hut Diner for the first time. Initially, things seemed OK: the staff was polite, the place was clean and not too noisy, and we were promptly seated. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, our appetizer was enjoyable, and my entree had no issues. The problems began with my friend's food. He'd ordered the battered cod special with tartar sauce, but the batter was raw and undercooked, and the tartar sauce was bubbling and rancid. He informed our waitress, who asked if he wanted to order something else, but by that point he'd lost his appetite. We were planning on trying the desserts, but by that point had lost all interest. We went to pay, and my friend explained in detail what happened with his food to the cashier, who I suspect was the manager. The cashier/manager's response was to go to a refrigerator near the counter, take out a container of tartar sauce (which looked completely fine, unlike my friend's), and then, in a moment that shocked us, stuck his finger in the sauce to taste it, pause, then taste it again. He said it tasted fine, not even asking to see either my friend's sauce or cod. Rather than strike the cod from the bill, which my friend couldn't finish due to being inedible, the manager said the best he could do was take 10% off the total. At this point, my friend and I were surprised, but also completely done with the Red Hut Diner. We paid, left, and later made sure to tell our friends and family about our disappointing experience, and why we don't recommend the Red Hut Diner and are never going back. This is a case where the situation could've been remedied, but instead was poorly handled due to management focusing on short term gain, instead of long term customers...
Read moreCame here based on reviews and the fact that I always have driven past her. I ordered the hot chocolate and it was small but delicious! I order the chocolate chip pancakes and they were so gooey with chocolate and yummy. It tasted better with butter. My boyfriend got French toast and it was amazing. It was thick and tasted like a warm apple pie! The omelet was okay it needed a little something so we put salt to add some flavor and it was good. The toast was crunchy and buttery. The bacon was crispy and made the way I like it. The muffin was toasted and was different but in a good way! It was full of flavor. We had plenty of leftovers. We also order a chicken parm to go and it looks amazing. Staff was super nice and the bill was reasonable and was surprised it wasn’t more than I thought it would have been. I definitely would come here again! Delicious food and very filling.
Update: came back again and as usual we were very delighted. The hot chocolate was good. Not crazy for the chocolate whipped cream but the hot cocoa was yummy. The side of bacon was crispy and flavorful. We ordered the Hawaiian pancake special and it was ok. It was a bit dry and probably could use a bit more coconut. My bf got the western omelet and it was very filling. The bagel and toast were nice and crispy. The toast was very buttery. I ordered the breakfast quesadilla. It was AMAZING! It was super cheesy, packed with flavor and protein. The sour cream and salsa made the dish even better. Once again the portions were huge and...
