Learn moreI was o disappointed in Cinco de Mayo when I decided to try it for the first time in Rockford yesterday (Sunday) for dinner.
The most important complaint is the extra charges they constantly add to your bill. Firstly, you have to pay for every single basket of chips they bring to you, and it's very expensive and the baskets contain very few chips. Secondly, they charge for refilling your salsa bowl, and that is very expensive. Lastly, and the worst part is that they don't tell you they are charging you $3.00 every time they fill your basket! I was shocked when my bill came and there were all these charges for refilling my basket.
WHen I complained to the server and tried to explain that I would have never asked them to refill my chip basket or my salsa (I have never heard of Mexican restaurants charing you $3.00 every time they refilled your basket/salsa), he said to me, "Well, there's nothing I can do about it because I don't have the power to do so, but secretly, I agree with you."
What a response! I told him that I would not be coming back to eat because chips and salsa are the mainstay at any good Mexican restaurant and that it is very inexpensive for a restaurant to serve an extra basket of chips and salsa. The prices at Cinco de Mayo are so high, and the company is so cheap in giving you product that I...
Read moreI "ate" there this afternoon, I literally ate two bites of my burrito. I pushed the food around my plate a little bit but the meat just did not taste good and had a funny smell to it.
We go to El Burrito in Grand Rapids and have had decent experiences, and I could tell it wasn't quite the same quality.
I took two bites to really give it a try, and it just was not good. I really hate to complain because I am usually easy going but I felt like if I ate this I would get sick. The service was really slow my partners food was good but he didn't have any chicken or beef which was the issue with mine.
We were done I had taken two bites and my partner ate his whole plate. I asked the waitress if I could just have it removed because the meat did not taste good and seemed really watery.
The waitress had the nerve to bring back my bill and tell me "Next time don't eat half of it or else we WILL charge you." We we're disgusted that she would say such a thing.
It wasn't her fault she isn't in charge of cooking the food, all would have been well if she didn't say anything, but in once sentence she made the situation so much worse. There clearly won't be a "NEXT TIME."
So rude! And so wrong! Plenty of great places to eat in Rockford, this is not...
Read moreIf you're looking for acceptable American-Mexican food in Rockford, this is the place. The service was good, but could have been a little faster. Very friendly, but also it took what seemed like longer than it should to get change after paying. The food took a little longer than expected, too, but was good. There weren't very many people in the restaurant and usually this sort of Mexican food is largely precooked. I asked for my Enchiladas Verdes to be spicy and the chef came out and gave me options, which was very pleasant. The murals enhanced the already lovely architecture, but the condition of a lot of the furniture was worn and much of the decor and menu was generic American-Mexican. The price was a little higher than what I expected, but not too bad. I'm guessing the cost of leasing the space is driving prices up and leaving little for maintenance/improvements/staff. Our meal took a total of 1 hour. (2 in our party) The quality of Mexican food here is almost certainly the best in Rockford, and is therefore a boon to the community. The location and two-story layout make for a...
