My husband and I have been to the Beer City in Grand Rapids & loved our food each time. Unfortunately we cannot say the same for the Rockford location. We have visited twice & both times were disappointed by our adult meals. My kids love the grilled cheese, chicken tenders & fruit cup (which offer a nice variety of berries). So the kids menu is great! The first time we ordered the bang-bang chicken pizza. It came out soggy & with barely any chicken on it. The second time I ordered the burger and requested to add guacamole which was listed on the menu as an add on for $1 extra. The waitress said in response, “you want to add avocado?” And I told her, as I pointed to the menu, that I’d like to add the guacamole. My burger came out & I had a plastic cup of chopped up plain avocado on the side. Apparently this location doesn’t know the difference between avocado and guacamole. I asked for the burger to be cooked medium & it was dry. My husband said the texture of the beef tenderloin sandwich was off- dry & flavorless. As for the service, we’ve had great servers both times. They were attentive amongst the chaos but could have been more familiar with the menu. The atmosphere is a bit loud during busier hours. I did feel like we were shouting our order to the waitress & we had to clarify what we were ordering multiple times due to the noise. The booth seats were comfortable. It’s a great location in downtown Rockford & my picky kids like the food so I can’t say it’s a total bust. They just need to get their adult menu cooking more in line with the Grand Rapids location & avoid false advertising if they don’t offer everything the...
Read moreStopped in for lunch today with my Mom and was blown away by the excellence of the place. The atmosphere and ambience of the place is a tranquil simplistic modern with a touch of farmhouse to remind you your not far from country life. Even the dishware and benches are ergonomically designed for an easy comfortable feel. Then when I think "wow, how could this get better" I look at the menu with all the fresh ingredient clean tasting options and realize my Mom made the most correct choice for our lunch excursion. When the food came out we immediately noticed the large portions and how well made everything was in that you can obviously tell fresh ingredients are selected and flavor/texture combinations are held in high regard for each dish. I want to mention again how beautifully simple the decor and atmosphere is here because it serves to emphasize the exceptional food without the distraction of a 'too busy'/ 'trying too hard' environment. My Mom ordered the burger and fries, the burger was charbroiled just the way she was craving and the fries were perfect with how light and crispy they were. I ordered the Scandinavian wrap and Tomato Bisque, the Bisque is likely the best I've ever had with the so fresh flavor and perfect texture. The Scandinavian wrap with roast beef was phenomenal, the leafy greens were fresh and not a shred of ice berg lettuce was in sight lol, were talking spring leafy greens, chopped cucumber, tomato, sliced roast beef, some delicious cucumbery ranch-ish style of sauce all wrapped up in perfect flatbread. AND we got pickle spears with each dish! We LOVED it! This is definitely our new...
Read moreThis was our first visit and do plan on visiting again. We used to love coming to this location when it was Arnies. One of my favorite meals from Arnies was the Scandinavian Wrap and how neat to see that The Old Mill has it. I was not disappointed! It is quite large and could easily be a shareable meal. I also got the garden salad with poppyseed dressing and it was amazing! My daughter got the same sandwich with the chips. However the chips were nasty. They had almost a burnt taste . . . dry and just no good taste to them at all. My husband was thankful he got the upgrade with his hamburger to the truffle fries and those were quite good. Overall we enjoyed our meal very much.
Our waitress was very cheerful and attentive. Some restaurants now have it where the servers show the bill on their tablet and do not give a receipt. Many pay with a card but we were paying with cash and she just stood there, wanting to be paid. It was an awkward moment until my husband said we will need a few minutes. It is hard to calculate a tip with someone standing right there. We much prefer getting a bill than being put on the spot to pay.
Despite this, the meal was good and we...
