Service was terrible. Food was good but under seasoned. I was there with my girlfriend and we were the youngest people in the restaurant. We are both currently head chefs and have many years of experience in the front and back of house. We know how an establishment is supposed to treat their customers. Treating people different because of their age or how they look is appalling. We were given dirty pint glasses for water, literally everybody else in the restaurant had clear highball glasses. We were told they were out of chowder, working in a restaurant we completely understand that running out of items happens daily. 30 minutes later the table adjacent to us orders the chowder and our server(Nicolas) says “awesome, you just took my last one!” We were told that we have to place our entire order in the beginning so the kitchen can keeps its pace. A little odd for a somewhat casual restaurant but we said okay and put our order in. Seemed even more odd when we waited half an hour for our appetizers and 45 minutes after that we finally got our entrees. We asked to see the dessert menu. Nicolas came back and I said “we will take the…” he cut me off and said “pass okay” then got our check. We were hoping to order something else but oh well. If you want an equal tip, give us equal service. Other than that the meal was alright, the tenderloin/shrimp/scallops were all cooked perfectly however they all lacked seasoning. All of the dishes seemed overpriced for how simple they were. Also I was afraid that I was underdressed until I saw our server in jeans and t-shirt with skate shoes and a rag tucked...
Read moreWe ate at In Good Company last week during our stay in Rockland, ME and were very disappointed. Everything about Rockland is charming, but In Good Company is not. You do not feel as if you're in good company here at all, in fact we felt as if we were an inconvenience. The waitress was very unfriendly and kind of acted like a robot. She never smiled or acted welcoming in the least. I observed her interacting with other guests and her behavior was the same. It was odd and not what we expected. My haddock dish was delicious but my wife's scallops were overcooked and rubbery. It was a shame because she loves scallops and rarely has them. The wine and cocktail list is decent. I think maybe if you only went here for drinks and appetizers it might be fine. But, they really need to train their waitstaff to be friendlier. Unless the vibe they're going for is aloof, uninterested, and extremely unfriendly...in that case they've succeeded with flying colors! We won't return and don't recommend this place to anyone. Acquaintances staying at the same inn at us were dining there at the same time and said they were also disappointed and the food quality had gone downhill since the last time...
Read moreWas really looking forward to checking this place out, my husband and I talked about it well before hand during planning as we are on our honeymoon. Our last night in Rockland we wanted to stop by for a quick cocktail before heading off to dinner somewhere as their website says “walk-in’s welcome”. Walked in, no signage saying anything, approached the empty bar asking if it was okay to take a seat and was met with the most un welcoming, un friendly and rude bartender who’s response was “can you check with the host please”, all without looking up at me. Now I have worked in hospitality for 15 years, self seating at the bar is the norm and I have absolutely no problem waiting to be seated there and checking with a host. But my god, the hostility was absolutely bizarre. Host was kind, told us we could sit for a drink, but I didn't feel welcome enough to do so. Every single person dining was probably 40 years older than us, can’t help but think that might have had something to do with it. Weird name for a place that was so...
