Ken Black - lighthouse fanatic, dismayed by the destruction of fresnel lenses by the US Coast Guard during lighthouse upgrades, went around salvaging them from an untimely destruction. In time, he amassed a truly impressive collection which is now on display here.

The museum provides a truly unique experience, with an amazing collection of lenses, memorabilia and informational material, you will leave here impressed. The curators are knowledgeable and passionate about lighthouses. I can’t recommend...

This agency is so unprofessional. We tried so hard to get an appointment to see a house and was told that we couldn’t see it because of some safety concerns. However the house remained on the MLS listings which is illegal in some States. I don’t know about Maine. We were up there and still couldn’t see it then this week it went under contact. I was told a bunch of lies. Stay away from this company they are so unprofessional. Not to mention that they represented the...

Excellent museum! For some reason Google is calling it a small collection of lighthouse artifacts when in fact the museum is home to the largest collection of lighthouse, life-saving and U.S. Coast Guard artifacts in the nation. The museum is now open Thursday-Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm until Memorial Day when they will be open seven days a week. The museum is located at One Park Drive in Rockland overlooking Rockland Harbor and beautiful...

I randomly stopped in here on my way to the Maine Boat and Home Show, as you literally walk right past it on the way to the Harbor. So glad I followed my instinct, as it's pretty darn cool. Lots of local history, along with plenty of historical artifacts, and how about all those gorgeous lenses! Pretty cool to get so close and see these bad boys in all their glory. I spent about an hour here, and that was plenty. It's worth your "Maritime"

We visited the museum after it was recommended by the Bixby Chocolate shop staff. We visited several lighthouses while vacationing in Maine. It seemed like a fitting thing to do. We did not buy tickets in advance and we did not have to wait but it was November so maybe plan ahead in the summer. There is a lot of educational material in this museum. There is a gift shop as well with some artwork and other keepsakes.

This was a very neat experience. My husband and I spent a long time here reading all the information and learning about lot about lighthouses. There were a huge variety of displays and historical stories. A perfect place to spend a rainy morning! I'd definitely recommend if you are traveling the coast to stop here. We enjoyed and appreciated the rest of our trip so much more with the knowledge we learned here.
