I had high expectations going in due to all the rave reviews. However, I must be honest and say that I was quite disappointed. First, no social distancing when seating us. The place was packed by the time we were leaving. Having said that, let’s talk about the main thing, food! We ordered a squid stir fry dish(forgot the name). It was just ok. it wasn’t above average by any means. I felt like I could get that anywhere. Second, we ordered shrimp fried rice. Now this dish was probably the most disappointing dish out of them all. The rice tasted old, dry and clumpy. If I’m being honest, I’ve had better at a carry out. They need to really take another look at their white rice and their fried rice. Next, we ordered pork soup dumpling, pork shrimp soup dumpling, and pork crab soup dumpling. My standard for this particular dish is quite high bc I had one of the best soup dumplings in Pittsburgh. Nonetheless, the soup dumplings here were better than one other place I tried in Gaithersburg. The skin wasn’t too thick and it was meaty and good amount of soup in them. My only suggestion would be to order them one at a time. All three came out at same time and as we worked down each tray, dumplings got cold and the skin/wrapper got hard. Lastly, we were all looking forward to the “dim sum”. However, the dim sum menu was really disappointing. There was hardly anything on there. And the overall price for dim sum as well as for their regular menu seemed pretty high. Moreover, Bob’s could clean the place up a little bit. Ok. A lot. Give it a good scrub and a facelift. There were boxes and boxes everywhere collecting dust. The dishes and the utensils need to be cleaned better as well. If ur looking for ambience this place isn’t it. Feels more like a sit down carry out. My review may seem harsh but with all the great reviews Bob’s have, I gotta say it just didn’t deliver it for me. It was ok at best but nothing really to rave about or...
Read moreWent here with my friends for Dim Sum yesterday. We arrived about an hour after opening and it was very busy-- but luckily we were able to get a table right away. You are given chopsticks, a fork and spoon, a soup ladle, and hot oolong tea (I THINK). I wish they had waters and soy sauce/fish sauce etc already at the table from the get go as it was very chaotic in there and hard to get a hold of a waiter as a result. But, I love the way they do menus here-- they give you a laminated menu that you can draw on with an erasable pencil, so the waiters can simply rotate around the restaurant with orders. By the way, due to the size, this is NOT traditional dim sum where things are carted around that you can take-- you have to directly order it. I actually prefer this because I don't feel pressured to buy things I might not want-- but it does kind of prevent the "trying new things as they come" fun that many more traditional Dim sum places offer.
We ordered a lot of different things, but I ate the chicken sticky rice, curry beef buns, pork buns, scallion pancakes, and sesame balls. The scallion pancakes and sesame balls were absolutely heavenly. The sesame balls were filled with slightly sweetened red bean, and were bite sized and crunchy on the outside-- I could have eaten the whole plate! The sticky rice was okay-- a little bland. Curry bun was ok, made with ground beef. Pork bun was great. Scallion pancake was freshly made and fluffy-- delicious! Wish it came with some sort of sauce though-- we had to ask. Prices were fair for shareable Dim Sum portions-- between four people we were just over $85 (one of those items was a to go order for one friend, so it was really more like $70-75.)
Now that I know the ropes a little better, if I'm ever in the area again, I will most certainly come back...
Read moreI had an errand to run and was going to be in Rockville for the day. The foodie in me started researching for places to have lunch. This place is all over TikTok and after watching all the videos, reading the reviews, etc. I decided it was definitely worth a try! a lot of the reviews say it isn’t worth the hype so I wanted to see for myself!!
My husband and I got A LOT of food: -Spicy pork wontons - amazing! So spicy and good. 8/10 -String bean Szechuan style- i only got these because they were so highly recommend. I was worried these would be just average - 100/10 literally one of my favorite dishes in a long time!!!! Sososos good!! Dan Dan beef - 10/10, soo good and flavorful!! We have never had this type of dish before and woah! Cold Sesame Noodle - 9/10, so good. We couldn’t decide between what we wanted so we got these. It’s the same noodle type as the Dan Dan but definitely a different taste profile. chicken & shrimp soup dumplings - some of the best I’ve ever had, I would say 8.5/10 because the dumpling itself was a little hard in some spots. kung Pao chicken - I’m not a huge chicken fan in these dishes, but it’s pretty good! 7.5/10 but that’s just because I don’t really care for this style of food. Still really good!
Overall, it was an amazing experience and the food was INCREDIBLE!!!! The noodles and the green beans were my favorite! I totally think it was worth the hype and would try other dishes if we...
