My wife and I have stayed at the DoubleTree in Sonoma Wine Country long enough to work our way through every item on the breakfast menu at Bacchus Restaurant & Wine Bar. For this review, I can only speak to the breakfast experienceâbut what an experience it has been!
First and foremost, the service is exceptional. Every single morning weâve been greeted with warm, friendly, and attentive staff who strike the perfect balance of professionalism and hospitality. Theyâre fast, consistent, and make you feel welcome every time. It truly elevates the whole experience and keeps us excited to come back day after day.
As for the food, let me start with the standouts:
The Zio Finnochio â This breakfast sandwich is nothing short of sensational. The homemade sausage patty is packed with flavor, the egg is cooked just right, and the balance of tomato, onions, and greens ties it all together beautifully. Iâve ordered it four times already, and itâs been perfect every single time. My #1 recommendation.
Blueberry Waffle â Outstanding. Perfectly sweet, flavorful, and filling. The touch of powdered sugar and basil salt takes it over the top. The first time we had it was absolute perfectionâcrisp, airy, and unforgettable. Even when itâs come out slightly less crisp, itâs still been a winner every time.
Chilaquiles Verde â Delicious and deeply flavorful, especially when the chips are kept crisp. When executed just right, itâs easily one of the best dishes on the menu.
Biscuits & Gravy (side order) â Donât let the âsideâ designation fool you. For $9, you get a small plate of absolute heaven. The gravy is top-shelfâcreamy, savory, and perfectly seasonedâtopped with green onions and crispy bacon bits. Stunning.
Now, to be fully transparent, there are a couple of dishes that fell a little short for us:
The Breakfast Burrito can be hit-or-miss depending on the cook. The first time my wife ordered it, she loved it. The second time, however, it leaned too heavily on eggs, wrapped in a tortilla that didnât do the filling justice.
The Bagel & Lox didnât quite match my personal preferenceâI like the classic three-ingredient approach (bagel, cream cheese, lox). Bacchusâ version adds capers, onions, and greens, which many will enjoy, but for me itâs reinventing a wheel that doesnât need reinventing.
The âBig Countryâ sandwich (country-fried steak on bread with gravy, pickled onions, and greens) was a swing and a miss for us. We expected a traditional country-fried steak plate, and the creative twist didnât quite land.
That said, even the dishes that werenât our favorites are far from âbadââtheyâre simply overshadowed by the brilliance of the standout items. The biggest challenge here is consistency across different cooks. When itâs good, itâs phenomenal; when itâs off, it can feel like a completely different dish.
Overall though, Bacchus is a gem. Between the warm service, quiet-yet-lively ambiance, and a menu that has some true knockout dishes, itâs a place we look forward to every morning of our stay. If youâre staying at the DoubleTreeâor even if youâre just in the areaâdo yourself a favor and enjoy...
Read moreRelaxing upscale classy escape. This is one of those places that you don't immediately think of when considering where to go for drinks and appetizers, but it is perfection. Located within the lobby of the DoubleTree hotel by Hilton, this wine bar boasts a beautiful rock wall framing the actual bar, as well as quite sizable and extremely calming fountain in the middle of the lobby. Free pool is also to be had at the single table in the lounge area near the fireplace. There is only one table, so you might have to wait your turn. When we went there on a Friday evening after work, we encountered a delightful man named carlos, who seems to be a one-man show of delicious drinks and sumptuous appetizers. This is about as fancy and classy as you get for drinks in winter park. Just for some perspective, the next classiest bar in Rohnert Park is arguably Quincy's. If you've ever been there, you know they're barely comparable. We've decided to make this the very least a monthly visit for us. This is a great place for a charming and relaxing date night. We look forward to visiting with...
Read moreIt was my first time visiting Bacchus. The steak was amazing! Wine selection was decent too. It was a solid meal with excellent service.
One odd thing, however. The dining area had an unconventional set-up. It was only semi separated from the lobby area. Initially I thought the design was inspiring and made it feel bigger. But not so great when a guest had a shouting match with someone and it felt like she was right...
