My youngest son who was 5 at the time & his sister who was 6 were the only kids on the Spin Zone ride. All of a sudden my son is moaning "ouch, I got hurt" & had his hand on his head. My daughter is balling her eyes out. The vinyl sun shade detached from the pole with the metal mechanism still attached & swung downward hitting him in the head.
The young employee was not attentive, I had to scream at him that my son was hurt, to let me in & to get emergency first aide. They all were so slow, very evident that this place doesn't train their employees for emergencies let alone have a safety/first aid protocol.
My son was blank, didn't cry, had no emotions & wasn't comprehending. I took him to the ER & he was diagnosed w/ a severe concussion. He was put on watch and had to miss weeks of school at the end of the school year (which is one of the most important times). I was forced to stay home w/ him missing work to monitor him 24hrs, it was a sleepless time for me. It's absolutely heart breaking for a mom to see her thriving 5 year old all of sudden lose his personality or his independence, he didn't even know what a sweater was & how to put it ON!
Needless to say we incurred expenses all due to this places neglect of their equipment. Proper maintenance, insuring bolts are tight & yearly inspections keeps the public safe. My son's end of school testing was poor, he was failing on the things he had tested strong on prior to this incident. We had doctors visits, had to hire a tutor for the summer to get him back to the level he was at and etc.
This happened in 2017, I have called management with no return call, I have mailed correspondences with no response, this place will not communicate with me about our damages. Their lack of response will not stop me though, if it means I have to get our local news involved I will get an answer from them.
Also, as we were walking out I noticed that the employee put the sun shade back up and had the ride open again. WHAT?!?!? Shows the carelessness they have for the safety of the public.
Both my son & daughter who witnessed the entire thing have PTSD to this day. I can't even drive by Scandia now they end up freaking out, crying & talk about the horrific day as if it...
Read moreA Scandia employee threatened to contact the "Authorities" on intellectually disabled people for eating their lunches inside to avoid the rain!
I run a special needs day program. We are from out of county. My participants often request to go to Scandia. Due to the distance and our time restrictions we often bring our lunches and eat there. When it is not raining there is no problem and we eat outside at the picnic tables. However, on this day it was raining. We brought their lunches in (2 on a restricted diet had their personal lunches and the third brought food from a neighboring restaurant). Being adults even though their diets are restricted they decided on one item from Scandia's JUNK FOOD menu. So they bought food from Scandia as well. After they had already begun their lunches they were asked to put them away for Scandia does not allow outside food. There was no warning for this rule being newly enforced on us. We were told if we did not comply that they would contact the authorities on us! You are telling me you are going to have them forcefully removed because they want a dry place to eat their lunches? If you offer any kind of quality food then they might be able to eat there but your menu is fried, high sugar, high calorie highly processed food that MANY OF US are not able to eat.
I am thoroughly disappointed in Scandia. In addition that they have a sign at the door is ableist. Not everyone can read. If you are going to enforce this rule so strongly have someone at the door like EPICENTER. Or do one better and decide to accommodate those that can show that they are apart of a disabled program or on a specialty diet. HELP US HELP THEM!!! DO...
Read moreMy family and I only go to Rohnert Park because it's between San Francisco and various summertime day trip traditions in Sonoma and Napa counties. And we only go to one place in Rohnert Park: Scandia.
I love older family arcades like Golfland, Malibu Grand Prix (no longer in Redwood City), and Neptune's Kingdom in Santa Cruz. I still play air hockey with my kids, I still play music games like DDR, I still enjoy playing skeeball, I still enjoy losing on a Street Fighter or Tekken machine. Scandia has all of these genres represented, and all of the machines I have played on work well: Pump It Up and a Stepmania machine as well as Maimai for music, Guilty Gear and Marvel vs Capcom 2 for fighting games, lots of ticket games, air hockey....it's all there.
For summertime, the water boats in the back are my family's other reason for coming to Scandia. For $8 per person, you and up to 8 (?) people can get into a floating raft with a small electric motor and putter around a small pond and blast each other with mounted water guns. My kids always enjoy shooting me, and I enjoy getting them back.
Don't bother with food. Batting cages are there as well. But really, I come because my family and I love arcades where stuff works, there is no alcohol, and the water boats give a reason for the kids to gang up...
