The Food; Horrible overpriced food made using low price ingredients in many places to save costs despite the premium pricing and pizza that can be considered a war crime to everything Italian American, There are also Concerns on sanitation as I Heard Rumors of a cockroach infestation and the review I saw where this poor lady shared a photo with an entire cockroach in her salad confirmed it, If you want this style of pizza with thin crust and etc just go to the local Imo's pizza or Pryor's as this place has nothing going for it besides misplaced nostalgia by other locals to the area and a good downtown location.
Atmosphere; Dining floor is alright I suppose and clean enough, the tables and booths are all hardwood and put together well enough, since this place is half a century old at least of course I suppose it sort of has its own sense of history to it, but if you come to a place just for the atmosphere as a person who likes good food I have to tell you that you are merciless to yourself for eating any kind of slop just because the place looks nice and the waitress talks to you.
Service; Its Meh, The people working here have their own Written out lines to seem nice with a fake smile like everywhere else in the dining industry, and often its young women who are likely college kids doing a lot of the tables, nothing much to speak of, there are some racism allegations about this place in regards to dine in experiences, however I cant seem to find any evidence of such a thing that's substantial..
I think that if this place were to be operating in any other place other than here in Rolla it would have been shut down and sold off/liquidated by its owners or converted into apartments like the building adjacent by them, I think that is also partially why in terms of expansion or growth this place has basically zilch.
I think if they tried opening a sister restaurant in another city like say Jeff city or anywhere other than some rural place like Cuba it would likely be snubbed by competition if they opened while keeping up with their current business practices.
I mean holy S@#! they charge 7 dollars for extra toppings in some cases and often the extra toppings they put on pizza is the bare minimum, I saw a well dressed guy the other day literally go to the counter and confront the people working here about it while eating here again a final time for this review, he raised his voice and asked them what kind of scam are they running after he got charged 7 dollars for extra toppings and all they put in total was around 10 items on his pizza apparently which he brought up to them in a voice raised to the point where I am certain nearly the entire place could hear it.
I think that visibly angry guy can summarize in his own words the kind of place this is, you are scamming yourself out of the money in your wallet coming here in many cases and there are better options for pizza and general Mediterranean...
Read moreAlex's Pizza is awesome, always has been and I'm sure always will be! I've been eating there since I was a teenager 30ish years ago, so now the nostalgia hits when I walk through the door. They have great food and a relaxing space to enjoy a meal.
Our party of 9 got seated right away and received very attentive service from our waitress. The dining room was quiet because people were scattered around the room instead of sat right next to each other. We ordered cheese balls, breaded ravioli, meat lover's and cheese pizzas to share - it all came out to the table quickly, hot and crispy. It tasted really good!
The only reason that I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is because of price and difficulty paying for our meal when we were done. We knew that this wasn't the cheapest place to eat at but still experienced sticker shock when we received our bill. We weren't informed that there was gratuity added automatically for a party our size (which didn't matter much because our server did a good job and deserved it). Also it took over 20 minutes to pay our bill because of a mistake made - a debit card was charged then immediately refunded, draining the funds but saying that the money would not be returned to the account for 3 days. We ended up having to scrape together all the cash we could to pay because of this error, leaving one of us waiting for a large chunk of change to be returned for several days.
Still, I assume this was a fluke rather than the norn and absolutely recommend dining at Alex's Pizza (especially if you are visiting Rolla) because this restaurant located downtown is a cherished local eatery with a unique menu selection. I love their gyros, Greek salad,...
Read moreWe decided to have our regular weekly date here because it was someone I hadn't been before. The waitress told us we could sit wherever we would like and we decided to sit closer to the door. A man came up and told the waitress not to seat anyone in our area. It would have been just fine if they asked if we could move but instead he got on a ladder and started fixing a light/fan fixture right next to us. Not only is that a safety hazard it was super distracting and awkward because I felt like I had to keep watch in case something happened. I don't know why I didn't just go with pizza but I decided I wanted fish and chips since it was an option. I got a piece of fish that had very clearly come out of a frozen box. Pretty sure my one meal paid for a couple boxes. The tartar sauce was out of a dipping sauce cup labeled Kraft. I didn't finish my food and just went up to the desk to ask for our check because we weren't comfortable there. Our waitress who had been talking to her co workers the whole time informed me that she was so sorry and if I had an issue to go take it up with the man fixing the light because she was just a server and no one is going to listen to her. I did tell him that I thought it was a little rude they didn't just seat us somewhere else or wait till we left to which he replied he doesn't get paid for that he just needs to fix that. So why is it our server told me to talk to him about it? Not too sure. I do know we won't be going...
