A Disappointing Experience at Gordon Biersch My wife and I stopped at Gordon Biersch in the Detroit airport during a two-hour layover on Saturday afternoon, hoping for a decent meal to pass the time. We chose this place over fast food, expecting something better. Big mistake. The restaurant was practically empty, which should’ve been our first red flag. Our initial server was friendly enough, quickly bringing menus and taking our order with a smile. I got a BBQ chicken sandwich with fries, and my wife ordered a half turkey sandwich with fries. So far, so good. But that’s where the positives end. When the food arrived, it was a mess. My wife’s order was flat-out wrong—she got chili instead of fries. The new server who brought the food just shrugged when we pointed it out, like it was no big deal. My wife, not wanting to make a fuss, kept the chili. Then we realized they didn’t even give us silverware or napkins—we had to ask for those! The food itself was a disaster. My BBQ chicken sandwich was drowning in sauce, so much that it overpowered everything else. The fries were stone-cold. My wife’s turkey sandwich looked like it was slapped together in two seconds, and the chili was greasy with no beans in sight. I left most of my meal on the plate. To top it all off, while my wife was still eating, the server dropped the check and pressured me to pay right then because her boss was sending her home early due to the place being so quiet. No wonder it was dead—the fast food joints were packed for a reason. The bill came to over $40 for two mediocre meals and water. No drinks, just water! I felt totally ripped off. In short, the food was awful, the service was even worse, and the whole experience left us regretting our choice. Save your money and stick to the airport’s fast food options. Gordon Biersch isn’t worth your...
Read moreIt was interesting. We waited in line for ToGo Beers. We didn't really see the QR code menu situation as we were behind another group. When we got to the bar the bartender asked if we were ready and we said "No, can we see a menu." They really rudely pointed to the QR code on the counter which we definitely would not have seen as we were in a line behind people.
We then asked what the Sam Adams seasonal was which the bartender told us. My friend then made fun of me to which I made a snide comment to her. Not sure if the bartender thought I was referring to her but our next question, amongst ourselves, was what the rotating tap was. The bartender, clearly annoyed, barked "just look at the taps they're all there."
Which, okay, first, no your seasonal Sam Adams flavor was not listed on the tap handle. It just said "seasonal."
So, not sure if the "read the taps" comment was for us to try and decipher what the actual seasonal of the Sam Adams or what the rotator was but the former was already addressed earlier in this review (i.e., no reading the taps won't help figure out what that was as it literally just says "seasonal") and the latter would literally involve cross referencing every tap handle with what's listed on the menu which is honestly tedious and unnecessary and some percentage of possibly not effective when restaurants how often don't update their menus. Just...
Read moreI travel to Detroit weekly and grabbing a bite at the airport is part of my weekly routine. The staff and service at GB is always on point, and appreciate the smiles the staff always have as I head out of town. Sadly, I may need to stop coming here. $70 for a burger and 2 beers with tip. I understand there’s inflation but had the same meal at a restaurant last night in the city and the price was $30. GB should be embarrassed (your employees are as they made the same comments to me) to price gauge like this. I looked at the menu and a normal salad, no protein was $16.50, $23.50 when you add chicken. I understand costs go up, but comparatively I can get a 12 oz steak for the same price as your burger 10 gates down. If stretching your margins by jacking up prices is your approach to driving profitability then you may want to understand customer retention and acquisition a little better, you are going down a slippery slope and you just lost this weekly traveler because of a bad...
