This is an update to my original post and ends with an asterick. Russ' management contacted me. I can't think of any thing that points to an establishment wanting to provide excellence than management looking into complaints. We live in a good enough world. Businesses provide mediocre or even sub par service and say that's "good enough." Btw - excellence is merely providing service in a courteous customer-centric fashion, making sure the quality is what it should be and providing that service or product in a reasonable time frame. I visited this Russ' and had a Michigan Cherry salad and my companion had the grilled meatloaf. Also ordered a strawberry shake to take to my mom. All were very good. I changed my rating from 1 star to 4.* Phoned in an order for two slices of pie. They did not have my first two choices. I settled on cheese cake after I was assured it had a graham cracker crust. Arrived 15 minutes later. Took way too long to pay due to cashier being very slow. Finally, I paid and moved to the side. Three people behind the counter were trying to figure out a customer's bill. I started looking around to see if my order was up. I saw it. Don't know how long it had been there. Went home and the cheese cake was horrible. No taste and texture like I've never experiened. Not dense the way cheese cake should be. Also no graham...
Read moreIf you live in Muskegon and haven't been to Russ', I'll have died from shock. This place is like an institution, especially the tele n dine. I feel like once you get to a certain age, it's compulsory to wake up, don your best clothes, meet your friends at the Russ' on Norton, and talk about knitting or the annual church bake off or something. I'm not sure what they talk about specifically since I haven't quite gotten to that age yet, but I hear snippets, and they sound pleasant enough. I usually go in the afternoon or evenings with my mom or with the family, and I love when tomato basil is in season. I'm usually satisfied with a bowl of broccoli cheddar and fries or a grilled cheese which seems like simple fair, but it's like going over to Grandma's house. Grandma will make you a decent grilled cheese, and you'll love her enough to keep on visiting her for it. I would never think to not go to Russ'. That would be an affront to Muskegon itself. It would be like saying the Dutch don't like their soup and salads, by God. And they most certainly do. I couldn't ever imagine Muskegon without Russ' because it's like the tower in Pisa, or the pyramids in Egypt: a constructed landmark that has been there long before me and stands to be there long after me. Anyway, I really like...
Read moreMy husband and i decided to try it for the first time. We were very disappointed. Got sat and waited 5 minutes before a server came to table. By that time we were ready to order. We gave our food order and drink order. Waitress put in our order. Never saw her again till we got our food. I ordered ny strip dinner w fries and California blend(which got brought after my meal) remind u still not drinks. Husband ordered perch dinner w fries and slaw. When she sat plates down i said um can we get our drinks? She looked at me and said oh um yeah. Fish was so fishy it was almost as if it was just pulled outta the lake Hardly any batter on it. My steak was nothing but fat. There was no meat at all. The only part medium rare was the middle. Sides were well done. They were not busy either. Maybe a handful of customers if that. We couldnt even finish our meal it was that bad. I was still willing to pay. But when i walked to counter to get the bill the manager came out. I explained issues and he says have you ever had our perch? Thats not the point. The point is it wasnt good. Resturant fish dont have a fishy smell or taste. He took care of our bill. We will never eat a...
