In short: much hype but doesn't live up to it. At least not the day I went.
I am always looking for unique and authentic restaurants. Especially if it is Mex food. I heard about Bobs Taco Station in Rosenberg and thought I'd give it a try on my travels from Houston to South Texas.
The goods: I ordered the Triple D plate to get a flavor for several of their famous items. The plate comes with carne guisada, pork tamale, crispy beef taco, rice/beans. With my take-out order I also got chips and green salsa. Was looking forward to a good meal as all items are staples on any South Texas/Mexican family dinner.
Result: disappointment. 🙁 Carne guisada used too much flour and low quality cut of beef (yes! I am a carne guisada snob); the tamale started out with promise with chunks of pork (yum!) but the taste was bland; the crispy taco was good (but how hard is it to get that right? Sorry--my 10-yo daughter makes a killer crispy taco!); the rice had way too much comino and the beans I didn't try (by that time I was a bit put off). As for the flour tortillas--a valiant effort as they were a bit more hardy than I have seen from the typical Tex-Mex restaurant, but, again, just misses the mark by being bland. The green salsa was good and a good accompaniment to the crispy chips.
Giving three stars because the service was good and seems like a nice family environment.
Give it a try--let me know if it was just a bad day for the cooks....
Read moreFirst time coming to this place, since moving to Rosenberg in the last 2 months. We have been wanted to try it. Have to say the food is good. Very tasty, good portions for the cost. We, unfortunately, for our first visit happened to get the waitress That’s sadly the a very sloppy job. She saw me wiping down the seats, as they were left very greasy from the previous person that sat there . She failed to ask us if we wanted chips and salsa. I pointed this to her, since I said everyone else being given ships and salsa without having to ask, and when I did, she said it was in additional cost, even though I hurt, no one else being asked, or told the same thing. I wouldn’t have mine paying for it, but it was the fact that it just didn’t seem fair, since it was offered Without question to every other table, but ours. Coffee was great, even though I have to drink it black since the creamers were rancid. 😓 then last, but not least I requested corn tortillas that accompany the meal. But they were never given to me. I had to also remind her., and she also failed to provide a receipt. I would say she was having a day off, but she definitely seemed to be on point with every other table, but us. It was so far the worse service in Rosenberg we had. Once again, I remind the food was good And we will give this place another chance based purely on food taste. Our to go box I am questioning if...
Read moreI went to Bob's Tacos expecting very little because I've spent much of my life in Southern California and the Mexican food there is a lot different from the Mexican food in Texas (which is mostly Tex-Mex.) I've found most Tex-Mex restaurants I've visited that have high ratings and reviews online, leave me rather grumpy as I don't like the food. However; Bob's blew me away. Where do I even begin...The salsa; nice and THICK, none of that watery mess you find everywhere else, no sir, this is thick and jammed packed with so much flavor it could easily knock ones socks off of they aren't careful. Okay now the tortillas, they are SO good and SO fresh they might as well be the Prince of Bel-Air! They remind me of the ones my Dad and I would make when I was a little kid. Now on to what fills the tortillas; I got some stereotypical breakfast tacos bacon and egg, Bacon Egg and Potato (they call that The John) as well as a Beef Fajita Taco. Each one was SUPER fresh, the eggs were perfectly prepared AND the meat WASN'T dry. Blew my mind. My husband liked it and even my daughter loved hers (a bean and cheesetcheese burritopburrito) and she's the pickiest eater I...
