Mediocre food. Nonsensical sauce policy/pricing. Bad attitude from the employee that waited on me.
First, I always say "hello how are you" and "please and thank you" and try to be very kind and polite to service industry workers since so many people treat them badly. The woman at the counter wearing a hat and glasses didn't say anything after I said "hi how are you" so I proceeded to order #6 Fish, scallops, and chips. She said back to me "scallop and chips?", So I clarified, "#6 with fish AND scallops please." She rang me up.
The food came out quickly within 5 minutes but it was only scallops, no fish. I brought it up to her at the counter and said "I'm sorry but I ordered the fish and scallop combo." She took the plate out of my hand and walked away without saying a word and with irritated posture. 5 minutes later she brought out the correct plate dropped it at the seat across from me and walked away again without a word and looking annoyed...
The plate came with a 4 oz cup of cocktail sauce but no tarter sauce so I went to the counter again and asked for some tarter. She again said nothing and just pointed at a sign on the counter that states they charge extra for extra sauces... At this point she's being blatantly rude, but I obliged and paid the $1 for tarter sauce but this in itself is silly. Every other fish & chips restaurant I've been to in this country (and I've been to dozens as this is one of my comfort foods) serves fish plates with 2 oz of cocktail AND 2 oz of tarter - not 4 oz of one or the other. Also the pricing of the sauces is nonsensical. 2 oz is $1 or $0.50/oz, but 4 oz is $3 or $0.75/oz, and 8 oz is $5 or $0.63/oz?... First of all it should be CHEAPER per oz when you buy more quantity, not more expensive. 2nd why would someone pay $3 for a 4 oz cup of sauce rather than ask for (2) of the 2 oz cups and only pay $2?... Same if I ordered (4) of the 2 oz cups for $4 instead of a single 8 oz cup for $5?...
Went back up to counter to ask for a slice of lemon and the other woman working immediately greeted me and asked if I needed something. She grabbed my lemon quickly and was pleasant. Night and day difference in attitude between the two employees...
As for the food... The scallops were not very good. They were a little undercooked and tasted very very fishy for scallops. The fish however was very good - the breading was perfectly crispy and the fish was still moist and tasty. The fries were not very good - they were pretty dry and not salted. The hush puppies were ok but I wouldn't get them again.
All in all I will not likely return based on the overall mediocre food quality and the cold and impersonal attitude from one of the employees. First impressions...
Read moreI usually come here for lunch with some co-workers. The service is always quick ,place is nice and clean, and the prices are great. About $5 for the 1 piece fish and chips. A tip when ordering, if you order any number of fishes they typically give you another half piece. For example if you order a 2 piece fish and chips then it is really 2 and a half. I thought it was a mistake the first time but they always do this. Another tip is get here before the lunch rush because it does get packed and it's a small place so seating is limited. Speaking of seating I like that they added soft padding on top of all of their seating because they didn't look like they come with padding to begin with. This is an awesome example of the business going the extra mile to make sure their customers are comfortable. Overall I highly recommend this place if you want some fish and chips or deep...
Read moreThe food was pretty good, I like that they fry in peanut oil. The value was ok. They really portion control the condiments. I kinda get it, but I hate cheap ketchup packs. Limiting the malt vinegar...yeah not to cool. Just put the bottle out. Lastly, the little Styrofoam cups for your beverage probably should be reconsidered, but we did opt for the canned coke because we both think Pepsi sucks. We had the fish and chips and shrimp. A tad over fried but tasty. They probably should focus as much on food quality as they put into portion control and cup condiment and napkin counting. All in all, I'd go again, but a little bit of food focus, and they'd be a bigger hit. I gave it 4 stars, but really, it's...
