“Traeger Grill Sold Defective – No Help from Assistant Manager. Be Warned.”
I purchased a Traeger grill from Ace Hardware in Roseville, CA, and it was defective right out of the box. The auger wouldn’t turn, which means pellets couldn’t move to the firebox, making the grill completely unusable. Per Traeger’s own instructions, you’re supposed to season the grill with pellets to test if it works. That’s when I discovered the problem.
I called the store immediately to try to resolve it. I was transferred to Corey from the BBQ department, who put me on hold, and then the call was disconnected. I tried again, with the same result, twice more. On the fourth call, I finally got in touch with Corey again and explained the situation. I told him at this point that I just wanted to return the grill and get a refund. He said, “If you have the receipt, bring it in and we’ll take care of it.”
However, when I arrived today, receipt in hand, the Assistant Manager, Matt, told me that he could not return it because “pellets were run through it.” I explained that this step is part of Traeger’s standard setup process, and I even read him Ace’s own return policy in-store. He still refused to honor it.
Matt wasn’t yelling, but he was condescending and dismissive, and he raised his voice because I challenged him to honor their return policy. He treated me like I was making the whole thing up, even questioning whether I had been hung up on earlier. I asked to speak with the store owner, and Matt handed me a business card. But the “owner’s number” on the card? It just rings back to the store. I called it right in front of him, and the cashier picked up immediately.
When I asked, “Isn’t this the owner’s number?” Matt replied, “He’s home with his family. You can call between 7 am and 4 pm and ask for him then.” He then walked away, saying he was “trying to help me,” while refusing to take back a $500 grill that was dead on arrival.
When I asked who was above him, he said he was second in command to the owner and reminded me that Ace stores are individually owned, as if that meant they’re above accountability.
Bottom line: I was sold a defective product, treated like a liar, and denied a fair return. I’ve since filed a dispute with my credit card company. Home Depot or Costco would have resolved this issue immediately, with professionalism and a refund, without requiring a lengthy process.

Read moreYour Roseville,CA staff at the location were not accommodating to a person with disabilities. I am permanently disabled with multiple spinal injuries, degenerative diseases, a recovering cancer patient and with crippling arthritis. They surrounded me in the store, knowing I cannot wear a mask due to lung damage from AVBD treatment from cancer; this act of intimidation should never be acceptable for ANY business. They advised I could not buy anything there, in which I understood and continued. I advised them of my condition, not that I needed to, but out of courtesy and was polite the entire time I was there. One of your tall employees decided to take it upon himself to intimidate me by standing within inches of my face for several minutes, while the other 3 watched without saying anything; a clear violation of the 6 foot rule. I was forced to crouch down and hurt my back in your store trying to take a picture of a part number so I can order online because your website is garbage for hardware searches. This tells me this is not about employee safety, but customer obedience to a rule I cannot safely comply with. One of the employees standing around was not wearing a mask at all, but a face shield, which is not the same thing. Upon leaving the area, the employee that was bullying me stated to his coworkers, I think you guys can handle this (profanity). This is completely unacceptable behavior, customer service and this should not go unpunished. I am disgusted with the treatment and am a long time customer who has spent thousands in ACE, specifically...
Read moreI went by this store to warranty some Craftsman tools that I’ve owned for over 30 years. Most were screwdrivers that had broken tips or were worn to the point they were no longer effective for fine work. I was unable to use them to loosen tight screws any longer because the tips were worn and rounded off, or the screwdriver tips had broken and are unusable. The employee took them to the manager and reported back to me that they would not warranty them. I asked why and he said it was at their discretion which tools they warranty. I showed him that they were worn and broken and ask him what it would take for him to warranty them. He told me he would warranty one of the screwdrivers with the broken tip but none of the others. I again asked him why he won’t honor Craftsman’s warranty and he said it was at their discretion which ones they warranty. I told him the screwdrivers were useless to me because of their condition he again said there was nothing he could do. I’ve been using craftsman tools for 40 years, and I’ve never been turned down on their warranty program before. I’ve warrantied their wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, hammers, and just about any other tool you can imagine. I find it difficult to shop at a location that will not stand by their own warranty.
From there I went to Lowe’s. They inspected all 14 tools and courteously and professionally exchanged them with no issues whatsoever. All tools were within Craftman’s acceptable...
