Good classic southern breakfast! We stumbled upon Huckleberry's one morning while we were trying to find a place to sit and have breakfast in the Rocklin / Roseville area. We'd never been before but we were intrigued by the idea of a southern-style breakfast. The location was easy to find and offered free parking in their shared parking lot. The restaurant was easy to access and seems like it would be easy for someone who has mobility issues to visit.
When we enter the restaurant we were pleasantly surprised to see the immersive theming that feels a lot like the bayou area of Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. We were promptly seated by a friendly hostess. This is a franchise restaurant but we had never eaten at any Huckleberry's previously. Our waitress was kind and friendly and able to help us navigate the menu. This particular location offered mimosas so we ordered one along with our coffees. This location offers bloody Mary's as well.
The mimosas were a nice touch, but just basic orange juice and champagne. I don't think we would come here exclusively for the mimosas but it was nice to have them as an option.
With help from our waitress we settled on the stacked chicken and waffles and the crab cake benedict. Both these items arrived quickly and were plated nicely. Both of these dishes had good flavors and are definitely items that we would order again. The stacked chicken and waffles did not come with any eggs so I ordered some scrambled eggs on the side. The stacked chicken and waffles came topped with crumbled bacon and green onions. We had also ordered a Mardi Gras beignet to share. You could tell that the beignets were precooked and reheated, but they were enjoyable nonetheless.
Overall we had a very nice breakfast experience at Huckleberry's breakfast & lunch. The restaurant was clean including their restrooms. There is not a big crowd on the Monday morning when we visited. Although there were not any kids there when we visited, they do have a kids menu. We will definitely be keeping Huckleberry's in our breakfast rotation especially if we are in the Roseville/Rocklin area.
We returned on Mar 21 and had a great breakfast. The beignets were VERY fresh this time and enjoyable. We tried the chicken fried steak , pancakes, strawberry lemonade and fried green tomatoes this time. Everything was delicious. The fried green tomatoes were somewhat bland (unseasoned) but we're very good with the side sauce and some table-provided Cajun hot sauce. Of particular note, the stacked chicken and waffles we had - the chicken was delicious. The gravy on the chicken fried steak was also very good. The strawberry lemonade was very sweet (too sweet to finish) but was flavorful and pretty enjoyable. The orange juice we ordered was definitely from frozen concentrate or some other concentrate. I wish they had fresh OJ because it is more enjoyable and it would also dramatically improve...
Read moreI really, really wanted to love this place. The look of the menu and the whole concept screamed “hidden gem”. Unfortunately, it was such a letdown. I ordered the California Benedict. It is listed as an English muffin with smashed avocado, fried green tomato, poached egg, hollandaise sauce and a balsamic glaze. This came with home style potatoes pictured as cubed potatoes. At first glance, I noticed that there was no balsamic glaze. Cut into the poached egg, and watched as slimy undercooked egg whites oozed out. I tried to push the raw egg whites aside and still enjoy the Benedict only to find that the breading slips right off the tomato when cut into, and the “smashed avocado” was actually rock hard underripe slices. Even still, I tried to push through it and eat only to finally decide that the food wasn’t worth the money or the calories. Another note, the potatoes weren’t cubed but instead cut into giant rounds. So nothing was crispy and also decided this wasn’t worth the calories. I wound up sending the whole plate back. I requested a biscuit with jam and butter to replace it as they boast homemade biscuits on the menu. I will say, the biscuit was very good and served piping hot. This gave some redemption points. However, the jam was prepackaged jelly. In a place called “huckleberry’s” I really thought there would be some nice chunky jam of some sort, but oh well. After our meal, we finally tracked the server down to pay the check we had sitting at the edge of our table with a card in it for 20 minutes. No one ever came back after the check was initially dropped. We also had ordered food to go for someone else, and thank goodness we checked the bill (to make sure my meal was removed) or we wouldn’t have noticed that they completely missed the side of bacon we had ordered with the to go meal. Had we not looked, this would have been a disappointing surprise 15 min later when we were too far away to address it. To their credit, they gave us the bacon swiftly and didn’t charge. All in all, this was disappointing service from our server and the kitchen staff. I will give a place a second chance if the foods good but the service is poor, or the food has some mistakes but the service is great. But for both to be off seems like a mismanagement situation. I...
Read moreWe went to Roseville location Oct ,6 12 32 pm. Seated and finally got a server. On our ticket it says server was Sandra. Eventually after asking hostess Kelly to help a lady came by and said she was manager. She didn't say our name and called them to ask her name they said Sandra but although it said Sandra as our server not same person. Got our drinks and place order the Mississippi and bayou style catfish. Guest ticket says 1 guest. It was 2. We ordered coffee and asked for cream because none on table. Server never returned with cream in fact I had to ask hostess for cream. 15 min waiting for cream from server never returned. Finally I received my gumbo and it was good. I'm from Louisiana so it was authentic. I'm rudely eating my gumbo in from of my fiance and no food yet. So I ask Kelli hostess can she check out entree's. Finally Kelli not our server brings out the Mississippi my fiance's food. It was cold, cheese on top not melted and sour dough toast was not toasted. It just has a bunch of melted margarine on untoasted bread. I don't eat margarine because it tastes like oil. But bread should be toasted. My entree still not there. Was told it would be right out that our waitress was grabbing it. Waited 5 min and decided to ask hostess Kelli if I could speak to the manager when a lady immediately said I'm the manager. She did not say her name and she said she would check on it and never came back to offer a computed meal or an apology. I mentioned to Kelli that when she said our waitress was grabbing it. Kelli explain 5 min later that she meant out server was waiting for it to be cooked. Not same as grabbing it. Finally got my entree. Catfish was tough and overcooked. Gave it to my dogs. Never saw server or manager again. When manager claimed to be manager she should have found out problem and returned to us to explain especially after I told her their service sucked. She just disappeared with our waitress. Service sucked and food sucked. No apologies no compted meals. Not...
