Having been evacuated from my home in clipper mills because of the north clairmont bear complex fire, the red cross provided me and many others in my situation with vouchers for a hotel/motel while we could not go home. When I first arrived at the front desk, I was disconcerted, worried, afraid and even grieving. My beautiful mountains were burning and my community for miles around were displaced. Some of us died trying to escape, many of us had only brought the most bare essentials with us. I was semi distraught, but the hotel staff made it easy to check in and rest. Thank them for that kindness. As the week wore on and we had to stay somewhere, we were given an extension to stay for 6 days. Originally it had been 3 days/nights. I could see the hotel staff begin to weary of us refugees, mountain folk, unrefined hillbilliies..et.al. Those who at first had been friendly and sympathetic began to seem a little impatient, unhelpful, irritated. I wonder what kind of stressed out people's behaviors they encountered, which dampened the warmth and comfort we sought and needed so much, as our worlds crumbled, and went up in flames around us. By day 4 or 5, they said they could no longer provide the complementary grab and go, covid inspired, continental breakfast. Said they couldn't get any more due to corporate ordering restrictions. (Yeah...I asked why) The feeling of having someplace safe to go, and the gratitude I had for that...I began to feel like an unwelcome guest. As my last night here is upon me...and we still may not return home, I feel sad to see that this hotel will be glad when we are gone. I know that I was as polite and easy a guest as one could ever hope for. I know I never asked for anything overboard, that I respected that this was a charity of the heart given with gracious love from many good people to help me and people like me, in a bad, serious time. Without the kindness of strangers, such misfortune as had already befallen us would have grievously multiplied unto outcomes egregious and untenable. In my sorrowful yet grateful spirit, I sought to give comfort to the people who made it possible for us to have a home, for the time being. But tonight, I am honestly, feeling unwelcome here. I soooo wish to return to my old, simple, unsophisticated abode in the hills, where I have too many cats and dogs (God save them all, blessed be nvadg), where there is dirt AND soil everywhere, too many trees, too much brush, too many leaves on the ground, bugs aplenty, laundry stacked sky high with the promise of a new washer ever looming on an horizon beyond view... And I wonder how I can avoid leaving these hoteliers with a sense of relief to see us leave their fine establishment and go back to the kind of clientele to which they were accustomed. I'm still so thankful for this good place to be when so much tragedy was everywhere around us. A shelter from the storm, was given by the Hyatt, bless them forever, we needed that so much, and bless the red cross and all the donors, who kept us safe when we needed safety more than anything. But, now? What? What is next for us? And, will they help people again in other times? It did seem like they would rather we would just go away. I think this hotels staff would benefit from a short course in disaster assistance. Still, tne women in the day time and the man at night were always warm and kind. Now, as I finish this review, it is the morning of our departure. We have no place to go, yet go we must. The rooms are beautiful, the beds, pillows and down comforters outstanding. The amenities are standard for this price point. The spa and fitness center are closed due to the pandemic. The pool is available in 1 hour segments by reservation for individual parties. Pets welcome/$50.00 deposit each. Contintental breakfast...sometimes, at whim. Thank you Hyatt. We needed you and you were...

This is NOT a review of the rooms. They are just fine. This is a review of the front desk and management. I would give them zero stars if I could.
I pay in cash. I spoke to the operator when I first booked the room and explained that I will reserve the room with my credit card as that is standard practice but I will be paying in cash and in NO WAY did I want a single cent to hit my credit card. I was assured (all 5 times I asked about this) that this would not be a problem. I, once again, confirmed this with the TWO people working the front desk when I checked in and they BOTH assured me this would not be a problem. I must say that both of these people we're very short with me, not friendly in the least bit and acted like they were too busy to help me when I was the ONLY person in the lobby and I interrupted a conversation between the two that was clearly NOT work related.
The stay was uneventful and exactly as expected. The hotel itself is very nice and the rooms were clean and above standard.
The day AFTER I paid and headed home the full room price was charged to my credit card. I called the front desk to ask what happened and they assured me that it was only "pending" and would not clear. BTW, I also cleared with the operator and front desk that this would NOT happen before I checked in, yet it happened. So now I've paid twice. Two days later I called again because the pending charge was still showing in my account. Once again I was assured that the charge will "fall off." Yesterday (4/20/2016) I'm noticing credits to my account from The Hyatt. 2 credits that are now more than what I was charged. So, over the past two days, despite the fact that I was so adamant about not touching my account, I have been overcharged, credited, charged again, credited again and now, the following day, the charges are no longer pending, they have cleared and I have paid DOUBLE for my room.
Now, mistakes happen. I can deal with that. What I CANNOT deal with is the fact that every time I call the front desk they lie to me and make assurances in an effort to get me off the phone as quickly as possible. Yesterday I was transferred to the Hotel Manager's voicemail. I did NOT receive a call back. This morning, once again transferred to the Hotel Manager's voice mail and once again, no call back yet.
This is a HORRIBLE way to do business for such a well known hotel. Now I have to jump through hoops and spend time calling my bank to have all the charges reversed. I've spend too much time calling the Hotel to get this resolved with lies and...
Read moreThis is my first time staying at a Hyatt Place property. The lobby area is less traditional looking...with a center podium area, like a bar. The front desk, bar and coffee bar is all co-located in this location. There are a number of couches and soft backed chairs spread throughout the lobby area. This gives a warm and welcoming feeling when you walk in.
Parking Area / Exterior The exterior of the property is really clean. There is ample parking and right across from the entrance is a little strip mall that does not look fully occupied and they do have a huge parking lot.
The Room I stayed in Room 420 during this trip. Its a spacious king room with roomy shower only bath. There is large sectional sofa that can sleep another person if needed...note there is no additional bed linens. The closet does contain an extra pillow.
My first impression was very positive. The room was impressively large and it smelled clean. But upon a little closer inspection I noticed some lack of attentiveness: the was tape on the wall above the sofa; the carper by the end of the sofa needed to be vacuumed; the top edges of light fixtures, TV and bed headboards needed a quick dusting.
Breakfast The food display was appealing. Total we had Canadian Bacon, pancakes and scrambled eggs for the hot choice. Yogurt and cut fruit is available. The dining area is bit small, but you can take your food and eat at the various comfy chairs and couches around the lobby area. Every looks clean with the dining area, but if you a little bit closer... the window sills around the dining area needs a quick dusting... there are crumbs and other small debris sitting on them.
Fitness Center Fitness Center is 24 hours. A little on the smaller side. 1 each of elliptical, treadmill, recumbent bike and inclined bench. The room was occupied so I did not go in and photograph the bike. It looks very clean.
There is a pool. The pool area looks clean along with the hot tub. I was there early in the morning and could not get a good look at things, but there was a thick chain and lock securing the gate entering the pool area.
Covid awareness- no signage, hand sanitizer bottles available throughout lobby area (manual pump), there was a wall mounted dispenser at the elevators. I did not see any staff wear mask and only 1 other guest was masked. A couple of guests were coughing without covering their mouths and find that a...
