Here’s the deal This Perkins is really run down The plastic dividers cracked and needing to just be taken down It loses on physical atmosphere
However, the manager didn’t even blink at my sensory ptsd need to pick my own booth - so that’s a real win
The server, Laurie, she coulda been fantastic - but she took her need for a 5 star review WAY WAY too far
She literally tried to make my granddaughter and I do reviews. She pressed buttons on her computer - despite me saying she’s doing her homework. I agreed to go to the page myself on my phone - then she pressed the five stars and tried to insist that she do each category as five stars and tried to stay right there until we submitted
She’d said she was delayed getting to our table because she was trying to get another table to do their review
Sure had been engaging about the menu - have helpful insights and spoke highly about the kitchen staff
She brought refills She showed interest in our enjoyment of our meals
And She was also quite creepy in all of those ways
She lingered A lot Asking probing questions - invasive questions
What medicines do you take I said a lot of different ones She looked at my medicine container Oh That’s a lot She said Which medicines For what do you take them Why so many
Then she picked up my medicine container and turned it over
It all felt performative Like she thought all of what she was doing would yield a five star review And her pressure would assure it
I’ve buried the lead —
That burger was one of the best I’ve had in any recent memories - PepperJack Cheese Burger With red onions and avocado The bun was toasted in such a way that each bite transported me back to my years growing up and the rare occasion when my pops dared use the kitchen and he’d make me a burger with white bread toasted perfectly. I am 56 years old and have never ever tasted my pops’ burgers since I was a teen. The beef melted in my mouth - it felt like it did. Perhaps the burger was a frozen patty but it fooled my discerning palate - it was like a fresh homemade patty. The fries were perfectly crispy just as I asked.
It was a truly delightful meal and great visit with my grand.
I KNOW these reviews matter to the employees and I KNOW that less than a perfect mark sucks for them AND I would have had zero issue with her asking for a review and stating that if we think they’re deserving of five stars please leave that score because they’re considered negative if it’s less. I’ve worked at a car dealership - same went there.
But she took it way way way too far to the point that my grams felt as if she was violating her space and she wanted to leave because of her intrusive behaviours.
It was too much and too far. The food was perfection - five stars 🌟 ⭐️ ✨ for certain. The server could have had a five star had she not gone way too far. The restaurant is in bad shape and I’m not certain anyone cares - there was a Kleenex on the floor in plain view of the manager and staff and no one picked it up. I still would have come back because of the food — had the server not gone too far.
Please continue with the excellent food and change your policies about reviews. It’s ridiculous that people cannot give honest feedback without staff being reprimanded - there’d be no honest way for anyone to give that atmosphere five stars but you’re expecting it or else?
Absurd - she’d have been a delight, probably, without the...
Read moreThe past 2 times I've been to this location the service has been just atrocious. I see a lot of positive feedback for the server Laurie but I unfortunately didn't have quite that pleasant of an experience with her.
We walked in at about 11:15 PM for a late night bite to a fairly dead restaurant. Upon entering we waited for about a minute before Laurie came up and without looking at us out greeting us, grabs some menus and silverware andstarts walking away. We obviously didn't follow her since she hadn't acknowledged we were even there and didn't want to assume but she turns her head and calls back to us, "Over here guys" in an annoyed tone like we were supposed to have known.
We walked over, sat down, and apologized for initially not following as to try and keep the mood pleasant and light. At this point she hadn't really looked at us or anything but instead just followed up with the same annoyed tone and expressionless look on her face with a "what do you want to drink?" Then left to get them.
We got our drinks fairly quickly but didn't end up ordering till about 15 minutes later when she finally came back. The entire time she took our order she would cut us off as we were talking to ask how we wanted our eggs etc. like she was just on autopilot and was disregarding anything else we were really saying as we ordered.
Our food didn't show up to our table till about 35 minutes later. I ordered the Belgian waffle platter with sausage and scrambled eggs and the only thing that arrived warm was the maple syrup. My eggs and sausage were all cold and the waffle was hard and crunchy like it had been overcooked prior to being left out at room temperature. Not once did Laurie come back to check on us again, it was as if she served us and then was done. At this point it has been a long night and we just wanted to leave but she hadn't come back to bring us our check so we just walked up to the counter to pay so we could leave ASAP.
Laurie was also the one who came up to ring us up to which she just said "What table were you?" Again in the same annoyed tone and then told us the total. At this point we found out that she was the only one out on the floor seating people in the entire restaurant, taking orders and bringing out orders.
Now to sum up our experience I do understand the frustration and annoyance that comes with being the only person on staff to work at a restaurant and being short-staffed is no walk on the park (I've worked in the food/service industry for years and I've worked shifts alone due to being short-staffed) but treating customers as if they are the problem is just not ok. We hadn't done anything wrong and were patient, kind, and courteous through the whole visit but yet we were treated like we were the ones responsible for the restaurant being short-staffed. This location has had this same issue the past couple times we've been here.
I'm assuming Laurie is wonderful and we just caught her on a bad night but this visit was just not pleasant. We will not be returning for the foreseeable future unless management at this location does something about the lack of staffing. It will only benefit your current staff...
Read moreI wanted to visit this location in honor of my CAUCASIAN Army veteran husband, who served this country for 26 years. I decided to dine at one of our favorite restaurants on his birthday, June 21. He has only been gone for three years after losing his fight against COVID-19 in 2021 two weeks after being diagnosed and hospitalized at the Minnesota V.A. hospital no visitors and having to die alone .....
Upon entering Perkins ( Roseville location ) I waited and was never acknowledged 10 minutes before, a waitress came over and grabbed a Caucasian man and an elderly woman that entered after me to seat them. When she returned, I told her I had been standing there before they arrived. She then told me the man had gone out to get her off the mobility bus. She then asked if I was on the list. I asked her what list, and she picked up a tablet to write my name down, saying I would be called shortly.
I pointed to a booth next to where I was standing and asked why I couldn’t be seated there or at any of the other 10 vacant tables or booths. She then said they were a bit short-staffed and walked away. I observed five waitresses plus her. I also noticed I was the only Black guest, and the other eight booths and tables (which I counted) were filled with happy Caucasians who all had their food, while I was just standing.
After 10 more minutes of standing, I told my 12-year-old granddaughter, whose father (my son-in-law) is patrolling the Mexican border, that I thought we should leave. While walking toward my vehicle, I noticed a few more Caucasian guests exiting their vehicles. I then told my granddaughter, "Let’s return inside; I would like to see if they will be added to the list."
While entering the building, I witnessed the same waitress escorting an elderly Caucasian woman with a younger woman to the booth I had inquired about. She also told the elderly lady that she had saved her favorite booth for her.
I then walked over to the cashier and asked for the manager. The manager came from the back with the same waitress, and before I could say anything, the waitress said she had just called my name. I told her she was lying. I then explained the situation to the manager and asked for the manager’s name. She refused to give it to me but another employee walking by whispered the name Sarah.
In my opinion, Perkins is not only refusing service to Black people but is using ways to make you leave. They may be using DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) policies along with the act that allows them to refuse service—in other words, they may be serving...
