I was kind of disappointed in the experience we had there. I love Szechuan spice but it wasn’t what I expected. We decided to stop in and grab a late dinner at 8pm. I had called ahead of time just to make sure they were open since last time we stop over and they were closed. The restaurant wasn’t going to be closed until 9pm. When we arrived we found no customers eating inside and no greeter at the register. We did see that some food were packed for takeout. We sat and waited by the window for at least 5-10 minutes before the waitress came out and told us to sit anywhere. We didn’t want to be rude and wasn’t sure if it was self seating or if we should have waited but by our instinct it was normal to just wait to be greeted and seated. The menu looked promising and delicious based on the pictures shown (it seemed similar to Legendary Spice by the UMN). We decided to get the shrimp dry pot and the seafood with garlic sauce. Both dishes came out different than expected. They both shared the same vegetables (chopped onions and bell peppers). The dry pot was more like a stir fry and was not like the the one we saw on the menu. We felt it didn’t live up to what we thought we were getting. To me that felt a little deceiving. Regardless, we still eat what we ordered. After we had ordered and gotten our food the waitress didn’t come back to check on us or ask how our food was. By the time she had came by we were done already and ready for take out boxes for our leftovers. I think overall the experience could have been a little better just because we were the only dine in customer in the restaurant the entire time. There was only 1-2 customers that came in for a quick pick up so it was not busy at all. The vibe and friendly customer service was just kind of bland and not there and made it somewhat uncomfortable. It could be just a long day and it’s near closing time but that shouldn’t be the case. It just kind of feel like we weren’t welcomed or they didn’t want to deal with us. We came excited to try a new location and something new but we left feeling like we could have gone somewhere else and questioning if it’s worth to go back again. I think if you are wanting something quick, easy, simple and take out then this would be the spot.

UPDATED REVIEW: I came back here with another group of friends. I recommended that we go here after my first experience being so fantastic! This was another wonderful experience. We shared 6 starters, some noodles, fried rice, and 2 meat entrees. Everything was super fresh once again! I loved the soup dumplings - very tender meat and flavorful broth. The sauce on the spicy cucumbers was also really good - it was kind of like a peanut sauce and it wasn’t overly spicy. The scallion pancakes are surprisingly one of my favorite things to get here - really tasty and great sauce pairing. My other favorite thing we tried was the chicken chow fun. The noodles are thick homemade rice noodles and they were insanely good! My only complaint is that some of the portion sizes for the entrees seemed a lot smaller than the first time I came here. They are reasonably priced though and we had good service, so I will absolutely come back again! ORIGINAL REVIEW: A group of us went here for a friend’s birthday dinner. Our server was attentive and all the food was amazing! We shared a lot of different things. My favorite appetizers were the Szechuan dumplings, the cream cheese wontons, and the scallion pancakes! I also tried some lo mein which was pretty good. The chicken and broccoli was great - the chicken was very tender. Everything was really fresh and delicious. Plus they give you huge portions and the price is very reasonable! I will definitely be sure to come back here and try even more menu items!

I am going to keep this as objective as possible. My wife and I have had great service before from this place regardless if it was takeout or dining in. Jack and his mom are good with customer service and the food is delicious. All other employees interactions we have had were good as well...until today.

I have never met or seen this employee before but this took place on 03/05/2019 at approximately 8:15pm. I called and put in my usual take out order and boiled fish filet in spicy szechuan sauce. Before, I have asked for extra fish and cabbage and was charged around 5 dollars for it. This time around the gentleman on the phone wanted to charge me 10 dollars for it and I was surprised since that's more than half the price for some extra fish and cabbage and said "really ten dollars? I wasn't charged that much before."

Before I could explain further/clarify he responded with: "Yeah it's ten dollars! It's seafood and it's expensive! What? You think I'm trying to rip you off?! You want me to give it to you for free?!"

I was dumbfounded at the rude and unprofessional response and said "you don't have to be so rude, I was just asking."

His response was "You order more fish so it's like two orders, you want two orders I give you two orders. Sorry, didn't mean to be rude."

To be clear, I did not want two orders. I was asking about having a little extra fish and cabbage. I was very close to hanging up and canceling the order but since Jack has been kind to me in the past, I decided to handle this differently. After confirming the order I hung up and went to go pick up the food. Once at the restaurant I addressed him and asked if he was the one that answer the phone. He said it was him and apologize and explained that he got upset because he thought I was accusing him of ripping off customers and went on to say that seafood is expensive thus justifying the extra 10 dollars. I clarified my side of the story and we cleared up the miscommunication there.

To be clear, I don't mind paying extra when I order extra. That's obvious and make sense. All I wanted was to clarify the price difference from last time and that level of unprofessionalism was absolutely uncalled for. Credit where credit is due, he did apologize and explained himself but I cannot help but think how many other customers he has treated that way or will treat that way. I highly advise this employee gets retrained and have a little patience without jumping to conclusions. I by no means want this person to be fired. We all have bad days and we all have misunderstandings. Just a little coaching would be sufficient.

Overall this place is good and I recommend it but this experience really left a bad taste in my mouth. It is a little pricey but good food is worth the price in my book. Jack, his mom, and his Vietnamese buddy with the tattoos have always...

This used to be a hidden gem in the heart of Roseville, but ever since they switched owners this restaurant has been going down hill. The food used to be authentic Szechuan cuisines, but now it’s really poor in quality. It’s a shame that they still call themselves Szechuan even though their dishes aren’t truly cooked in Szechuan style, but instead is cooked by cooks from Guangdong province. I mean Guangdong cuisines is good too, but you can’t mislead and lie to people saying that you are cooking Szechuan cuisine.

My friends and I used to enjoy coming to this restaurant, and most of my friends are from China. They used to compliment how authentic and delicious the food was, and mentioned that it reminded of their hometown back in Chengdu. However, this isn’t the case anymore since they switched owners. Today, I went with a friend from Beijing and he asked if the Peking Duck was similar or not to northern Chinese style. And guess how the waiter treated him! He just specifically pointed at the picture, and said it looks like that without saying much more.

The waiter is an old Asian man who is completely disrespectful towards my friends and I. We pay money to eat at this place, yet we get treated as if we’re second-class citizens by this waiter. I don’t know what his problem is, but he should either hire more qualified servers or stop managing the restaurant completely because he’s rude, disrespectful, probably racist towards Chinese people, and he even smoked outside with the restaurant door open. I had a bad case of second-hand smoke from this waiter.

My friend ordered Braised Pork, and it was burnt. We’re assuming that they already cooked the pork, and just reheat it to serve us. We also ordered another dish, and the bowl was large but there wasn’t much food in it. It’s ridiculous that I paid money to eat these two dishes. I will never go to this restaurant ever again unless they switch owners, have new chefs, and severs. It’s a sad day when such a hidden delicious restaurant becomes disgusting, rude, and...
