Never been treated with so much disrespect at a restaurant before. Came here after working outside all day. Yes, I probably looked disheveled as I was still in my work clothes. Keep in mind it was not busy, there was only a handful of other tables occupied. Got seated, server came to get my order, I asked if I could place an order to go but sit here while I wait and get a milkshake. The server responded to me, extremely annoyed and acting as if I shouldn’t be taking up any of her time. She told me that doesn’t need to be done at a table, I can get up and go wait at the front, and she started walking away. I replied and said can I sit here, order a milkshake and fries for here and place an order to go. Again she said that’s done up there you can order up there. I finally just said “is it not ok to sit here while I wait and have a milkshake?”. She rolled her eyes and said “that doesn’t need to be done by me”. She then went and got the gentleman who seated me. He came over and said so what do you guys want you want to get food to go or what. I ordered two things and left a 100% tip. I hope they stop treating customers like this, but I will not be returning...

Our party of 3 arrived around 5:30 on s Sunday. The restaurant was not busy at all, and we were seated promptly. Overall, the service was good but not great. Felt a bit pressured to order quickly and had to request a refill of my coffee (and even then was never asked if I wanted more again). But the food...oh yes. We started off with onion rings. They were served right out of the fryer and the beer batter was very good. Onion was a little thick, so didn't get as tender as I like but nicely crispy and not too greasy. We shared 3 entrees: Bbq crispy chicken burger with sweet potato fries. Awesome. Highly recommend you try this one. Deuce Coupe with garlic parmesan fries. I stole another third of this burger because it was so good! I will get this one all to myself next time but without the garlic fries. They were s not soggy although had great flavor with lots of garlic. Mushroom swiss burger with fries. I'm not a fan of mushroom swiss but the other 2 said it was delicious and would order again. The regular fries are always good and worth getting.

Overall, we're get consistently great food and okay service at this Mel's....

Thought I would try this Mel's Diner on Douglas Blvd for a late night meal. Walking in I saw that the place was very clean and very crowded for 11 p.pm I was greeted and seated quickly. The staff was very friendly always making sure everything was satisfactory and if I needed a drink refills. There are lots of neon signs and pictures of the early American Graffiti days to add to the nostalgia. I have to say the food was fantastic except for the skillet meal I ordered. I don't know if it was the chef's way of making it or if they changed the way it was cooked. The skillet I received was more deconstructed than being all cooked all together the way I've had them in the past. It was more like an omelette set on top of potatoes. It was cooked very well and tasted fantastic but just not quite the skillet quality of so many Mel's skillets I had in the past. Anyway check out the daily specials for great budget meals. My favorite is the steak and eggs...

Hmmm, well another Unfortunate expenditure except this one was at The Original Mels Diner. Such tasteless or dish water tasting meal rather other than the buttered sourdough bread which was a lovely choice to have to give me a warm feeling. I had ordered the vegetarian omelette with country potatoes. Coffee was good with several vanilla creamers. Waitress (young-ish bleached blonde) had no clue who I am and was very judgmental towards me. Sad morning all in all when I was looking so forward to this breakfast for months. Not to mention the music is so loud not even my headphones could drown it out. Oh well, that ship has sailed and I will not be back. The two stars goes towards the cute and classic look of the joint.
