Sarah Donuts — Restaurant in Roswell

These are the donuts I've been searching for for the past 20 years!

Growing up in a small, rural town in Nebraska, I was raised on donuts made by an elderly couple that came in HOURS before the sun ever thought about coming up to start making donuts from scratch every morning. Once I moved away, I've been searching for those same donuts ever since with little to no luck. The bakery back home isn't open anymore so I can't even go home for my donut fix. Mass produced donuts like Krispy Kreme or Dunkin don't even come close to that childhood nostalgia, the texture, the heartiness... What I consider a REAL donut.

After years of searching, Sarah's Donuts is just about perfect! The apple fritter and Sunflower donuts bring back all those childhood memories and take care of my donut fix. The ability to customize filled donuts by topping and filling is quite the perk also if that's your thing. It's both a good and bad thing this shop is 4 hours away from where I now live. 😂

The only donut I haven't been able to replicate is the traditional round one with chocolate icing. The old bakery back home used a slightly different dough for that one and their chocolate icing was unique. The search is still on for that childhood memory but until then, every time I'm in town, this shop will be one of the "must visit" locations.

Sarah's Donuts went above and beyond to provide service that exceeded our expectations. We placed an order for 2 dozen donuts for my son's birthday celebration at school. The donuts had to be individually wrapped because of Covid. I spoke with David and he said it was no problem to wrap them and no extra charge. We were supposed to pick them up on Thursday at 7am when the tropical storm hit. At that point, school was delayed and I was going to pick them up later that morning. School ended up getting canceled and when I called and spoke to David again, he said it was no problem to make the donuts fresh in the morning again. Later that evening, school was canceled again. We called in the morning and again were told that it was no problem to change our order to Monday. Later Sunday afternoon when the store was closed, I found out that the birthday celebration would be on Tuesday and not Monday. I was embarrassed to call again on Monday morning and would have gladly paid for another couple of dozen donuts, but again, they changed our order to the next day with no problem. Finally today the kids had the birthday celebration with the donuts and I am told that they were delicious. Thank you so much for being so gracious and...

Another one down!! Here's my take.

Not sure what the 0⭐ on the sign is about because this place is 5 ⭐ 😁 The old fashions we're shockingly moist which was surprising because they didn't look that way. Great selection with some unique donuts like the sunflower. Customer service was great and the woman up front was very friendly!

Some very picky things I would change. Perhaps it was a one time thing, but the filled donuts needed a tad more filling. Perhaps 2 pokes with the filler instead of what seemed like one This may be a personal preference but I felt like the sunflower donut needed more cinnamon. It tasted good but I just prefer cinnamon roll type donuts to have more cinnamon. The strawberry shortcake donut was really good but I think the strawberries could have been quartered and with a bit more filling. It just was hard to eat one bite with everything in it 😂

This place is yet another hidden gem that I would be glad to make...
