In truth, I was not going to leave this review as it is a principle of mine to leave bad experiences in the past and draw light to those that were good. However, the more I thought of the events that transpired the greater the conviction to write this review became.
I will start by admitting we did make the mistake of arriving a bit early before they opened at 5 PM. We were exhausted because I flew in to visit my mother that morning and we subsequently spent the day shopping and hiking. As you can imagine we were tired and hungry so we rushed to our reservation excited to follow up a great day with dinner at an establishment which boasted phenomenal reviews. In our haste it slipped our minds that the restaurant was closed for about another 20 minutes, so when we opened the door and was promptly rushed out with the owner having a not too welcoming attitude it was understandable and we agreed to wait at a table outside until opening. Unfortunately, she still seemed flustered and unwelcoming as 5 PM rolled around, arriving at our table to bring the menus as well as noting the hostess/sever (her daughter) was running late as usual. She added the quip to not hire family and we thought to ourselves surely it couldn’t be that bad. We therefore assumed that perhaps they were just having an off day and decided this wouldn’t determine the outcome of the rest of our meal.
A few more minutes passed and the hostess arrived to take our order with a less than pleasing attitude, to say she was inattentive would be too high praise. She hurriedly took our order with a rushed and sour disposition. Then brought the food out shortly after with a similar attitude. My mother immediately noticed her salmon was undercooked but decided to try it anyways because we second guessed what our eyes were seeing. After a few unpalatable bites and slicing into it we came to the realization the salmon was completely raw in the center (as pictured).
We tried to get someone’s attention but the hostess, bartender, and basically most other staff were just chatting by the bar immersed in their own conversation. I did not want to get up with dinnerware on the table as another issue was that the chairs and tables for the outdoor seating are quite uncomfortable due to them being on uneven cobblestone and it placed us in an awkward situation where every time we got up it caused the table and chairs to shake. So, I called the restaurant and after many rings a young man in the group by the bar answered. I explained the predicament and asked if our sever could come a moment, he did not even let me finish fully before without saying a word I could see him drop the phone from his ear and mention in exasperation that I was calling. The server hesitated to come out with a sigh of frustration herself. The overall attitude of the staff was off putting and unprofessional. None of them should be employed there. My mother caught on earlier than I did because I was intent on enjoying our time there. I kept making up excuses until that point as we were clearly being treated abhorrently for reasons we could not fathom since we were polite even in the face of their indifference and said very little for the time we were there.
The hostess/server did come out eventually and we conveyed the issue after which she promptly took the dish back to the kitchen. After having a brief conversation my mother and I decided we’d just pay the bill and dine elsewhere. I went inside to ask for the check and the same man (perhaps the bartender) that answered the phone said “she is coming in” with an air of animosity. I explained I was coming in to pay our check and leave. This is when the owner came out to try and explain that they were inquiring with the kitchen as to what transpired and if we wanted to leave she would not allow us to pay. We went back and forth insisting on paying but she refused to take any payment and we left.
It would have been a predictable outcome had we just read the few one star reviews and believed them. I highly suggest...
Read moreSadly, we experienced some of the worst service here last night. We arrived at 9:25 (on a Friday night) and asked if they were still serving. They said they were not taking entree orders but still serving drinks and appetizers. We only wanted to close our evening out with a glass of wine, so we opted to stay. When we asked about sitting on the patio, the hostess recommended we sit inside since it looked like possible rain. There were 2 other tables occupied and one gentleman at the bar at that time, so it was not busy. The waiter who came to our table was extremely rude, but we ordered anyway, thinking "he'll lighten up since we're just having a beverage". Within 5 minutes of receiving our drinks, the hostess came to our table and said they were going to begin closing because a rain storm was coming. We thought, "that's fine, well just finish our beverage while they're closing down, then we'll be done about the time they are". The waiter came back scowling again within 10 min, stating they needed to get out of there because some of them lived 30 min away, yet, he and the hostess were not doing things to close up, but instead standing at the end of the bar staring at us, obviously taking about us and making us all feel very unwelcome. There was still one more table and the gentleman at the bar, finishing their beverages, so we continued to finish our drinks in a reasonable manner (ie, not gulping). Waiter then came and asked if we would be ordering anything else, we said no, so he brought us our tabs, again, very rudely and stating they all needed to leave because of the storm. They then started sweeping floors around us in a very aggressive manner and continued with the scornful looks. We paid our bill and left, without even so much as a thank you from anyone working there (and this is a one small dining room restaurant, so you can see and hear everything). We were there maybe a total of 30 minutes, but it was difficult to enjoy ourselves with the horrible attitudes of the staff. It's too bad the attitudes of the wait staff have soured us to the point we won't be returning. Hopefully management will see this and work...
Read moreVisited recently with a girlfriend; it was actually (unfortunately) the final stop that afternoon, after sipping and snacking along Canton St that day. The only thing that drew us to actually stopping was the fire pit and empty patio, and we had a feeling of what we were going to get there, but hadn't stopped before and were like, "Eh, what the hell". Service wasn't terrible or anything, but the drinks were so bad. We ordered an Autumn Fizz and a Black Walnut Old Fashioned- both of which were made with what are usually some of our favorite ingredients. It was so odd, because we both looked at each other after our second sips and made the same face. Just beyond unpleasant. We tried to force them down laughingly, but gave up. When we asked for the check and they were both half full, there was no inquiry or concern as to why. So we just shrugged it off and took the loss, though we definitely should have said something after those first sips. It was nice having the patio to ourselves, but telling that it was so empty while everywhere else on around the corner on Canton St. was already crowded. Also, toward the end of our visit, a man who had been sitting at his laptop the entire time behind us suddenly comes over, and asks for a picture for their IG. We oblige, but then it's now do this and now do that and this is video now. We were laughing so awkwardly because the drinks were so bad, I mean yeah you probably would want to spin your promo material as best as you possibly can. We should have said something about the drinks. We should have said "we're good, thanks" after that first photo. Our bad. Definitely memorable in the...
