I had the fortune a few years back to try the curderburger from culver's. I wasn't particularly a fan of culver's, but that cheese patty made all the difference in the world, and while eating, literally said wow multiple times.
If culver's curderburger made me say wow, twisted burger stunned me into silence. My first thought upon seeing the burger itself was, "This is gourmet". That might seem a bit silly for someone who has never had anything gourmet, but that phrase was the single resounding thought that echoed in my mind.
The first bite was unlike anything i've had before, it was simply perfect, I had never had a burger of this level of quality before and it simply stunned. I had The California with the excellent provided chipotle may. It was delicious however I felt the flavor of the avocado was almost overbearing, distracting me from the the quality beef patty. The farmyard was good as well, the runny yolk taking the place of the avocado in overpowering the delicious beef.
For the namesake of the restaurant, the Twisted burger was underwhelming. The barbeque sauce is unimpressive and bland, with spice added that hits you in your throat but doesn't blend well with the overall profile of the sauce. Imagine taking the blandest most uninspiring barbeque sauce, and then adding heat and you will have an idea of what the twisted sauce is like. It's like trying to enjoy a good book, except someone keeps interrupting you. I will never have it again and I regret ordering it in the first place.
The meat is the star of the show, and of the three or so burgers I've tried, is best when it "seems" slightly undercooked (I'm certain it's up to standards), soft and juicy in the best way. The last time I visited, the meat seemed a bit overdone and wasn't as enjoyable. The quality of the meat is rather good, and it feels almost a waste to have flavors competing for the diner's attention.
A small fry is under 2.00, 1.50 or 1.75 I forget, and will deliver unto you a portion that is greater than a McDonald's large fry. The fries are cooked in soybean oil and seasoned with Lawry's seasoning salt, and are the best fries I've had in my life. These are best when not overdone and a little wet - greasy and well-seasoned (but not in a bad way), ketchup is not welcome here.
A burger and fry will run you 12 to 14 dollars with more complicated burgers being a few dollars extra and compared to fast food 'premium' offerings is money well spent. Food is made fresh when you order -- expect to wait,...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place but my expectations were just not met, the hot dogs were amazing the fries are a bit soggy so not the best if ordering togo if you’re a crispy fry person. The burgers were the biggest disappointment the meat was not quality or even seasoned and the produce is watery and tasteless, my avocado on the California burger I got was black in places and the whole burger was just soggy. We also got the shroomer burger it was the same just no seasoning and the mushrooms were pretty raw still just soggy and not good. The Shakes are great. I just feel the quality is better at the location. on Center street in Grayslake. I hope this location works out the kinks and can come up to par with the prices charged.
Also just a side note with the tier we are and covid restrictions there should not have been a table of 13 people sitting together on one big table when I went to pickup our food. 4 people at a table is in the guidelines at this time. We didn’t feel completely comfortable and safe and probably wouldn’t have ordered from here having known. The Grayslake location would never allow that and has followed protocol all the...
Read moreThe burger and fresh cut fries were well prepared and very tasty. I tried a strawberry refresher, not really sure what it was and found it to be, well, refreshing.
I would make some suggestions to the owners. Being my first visit I wasn't sure where to go. There wasn't any signage to show where to order or how to order. Even the kiosk to order online was facing perpendicular to the entrance where it appeared to be an employee only kiosk. An order here sign above the clerks station would be helpful for new clients.
The front entrance also has signs that read "no exit" but from the dining room there didn't appear to be any other exit. No exit signs to lead to an alternative exit. So how do you leave? This may be a safety concern too.
After talking to the employee, she mentioned that they didn't want people using the front door as an exit because of the steps and people tripping could be a risk. So why not install a handrail in the vestibule and maybe a ramp? That way people won't trip and the entrance is a little safer. Plus an exit sign above the hallway to the rear exit would...
