I live in San Antonio and had business in Austin, made it a point to come by for lunch after seeing this spot pop up on my IG. Definitely did not disappoint, and made the I-35 traffic worth it. We ordered the Sate Babi (pork) plate, Ayam Bakar (grilled chicken leg quarter) plate and the Gado Gado (salad w/ peanut dressing).
Sate was very good, the smoky charcoal flavor was present but not overpowering. The pork was tender and the sweet and savory marinade accentuated the meat very well. The Ayam Bakar was my favorite, the dark meat on the bone meant the meat stayed moist and succulent. It had a similar sauce as the sate, but the chargrilled skin really made this one enjoyable.
Gado Gado was a pleasant surprise, it doesn't look like much but the well balanced peanut dressing was neither too sweet or salty. It coated all the vegetables nicely and offered a nice freshness to the overall meal.
Don't skip the table condiments, I don't know the names but the pickles and sauce they bring out are there for a reason...so add them to your food.
Really nice food, with really great service. Couldn't ask for a better way to spend my lunch. Will be back when...
Read moreAlmost missed the place because there’s no sign on the building but the door has their logo on it. It’s in the former Wingstop. The lady who greeted me (I’m assuming the owner) was so nice and sweet. I told her I wanted to try a little bit of everything and she let me order 2 of each skewer. The skewers were a bit small in my opinion but they definitely were packed with flavor. My least favorite was the chicken one. It just didn’t do it for me like the other ones. The beef was the absolute highlight, and the pork was amazing! Perfectly charred and FULL of flavor. The yellow rice was strange and dry and clumpy definitely wouldn’t get that again. I’d like to see more sides, meats, platters, drinks and desserts. Both the peanut sauce and the spicy sauce in the small cup were out of this world. I honestly think they need a bigger menu and a sign in order to pay for the rent in that shopping center. I’m sure the rent is PRICEY! I’d definitely...
Read moreSaté Texas is absolutely phenomenal. I originally got to know them when they had a food truck a couple years ago. I was bummed when they closed the food truck and have been hoping that they’d reopen at some point and my wish was answered!
The food is as fantastic as it was before. Simple menu, just a handful of items and they are all done to perfection. The beef chicken and beef skewers are my go-to but I’ve also become a huge fan of the Ayam Bakar as well. The house made pickles and sambal are fantastic too. Also try the Indonesian Jasmine Green Tea drink they sell!
In addition to the phenomenal food the owner is the sweetest person ever, which just makes the whole experience that much better. The skewers are grilled to perfection over a charcoal grill so if it takes a few minutes...
