It really saddens me to give such a low review. I fully support local businesses and I'm doing my best to be patient with food and help shortages that are occurring everywhere. We have been ro Bankhead a few times and have always been pleased for the most part. A few months ago our pizza was made wrong due to someone in training and we didn't complain. Unfortunately this last visit on Thursday was horrible. We had family in town and decided to go for an early dinner. Our waitress at first was friendly and all was good. We did get a little concerned when she took our food order and didn't write anything down for the 4 of us but we kept our fingers crossed. Our appetizers were good but the issues started with the main course. My husband got the wrong fries but didn't say anything. My son also got the wrong fries and the ones he got were raw. We couldn't find our waitress so we asked another server to please get the correct fries. In the meantime we began eating and each of us were disappointed in our food. The burgers were very greasy, the truffle fries that my husband did not order were awful and my son's sandwich tasted really off. After all of us ate what we could stomach, my sons fries were still not served. His girlfriend went inside to speak to someone to see what the issue was. Finally our waitress came to the table and asked if we needed anything else. We explained we're still waiting on fries and my son said his sandwich was horrible and handed her the entire plate. Still nothing. After waiting another 10 minutes we asked for the check. We also figured our waitress or a manager would discuss the food quality and missing items. Well our waitress brings the check and the order of missing fries as we're all getting up from the table. No adjustment on the bill, no apologies. This is not an issue with being short staffed, it's an issue with not caring about your customers, lack of proper training, lack of common sense. At a bare minimum, my son's meal should have been removed from the bill. No, I am not the type to look for a handout or complain for the fun of it. Our bill was over $150 and we all went home hungry and upset. With so many restaurants struggling to stay open, Bankhead needs to do a better job at service and food quality...
Read moreThe names of the beers are funny, but dang they are pretty incredible. I can actually taste most of the flavors in the description. Hoofers hef was pretty amazing and the liquid language was excellent for dessert.
I wasn’t super impressed with the stuffed avocado but the wife loved it. The main attraction was the pizza. The crust was thin but firm throughout which is a huge boon because it seems like most wood fire places have soggy middles. When we asked the server which one was better they suggested a half and half, which we hadn’t even thought to ask since so many places don’t do that. The bar also has little ring games on it which I thought was cool, and we did see a patio, though not sure if they have games or anything out there.
Street taco pizza was indeed the winner and you must squeeze the lime on top. Good texture, plenty of toppings, excellent crust. We will definitely order again. It does not seem to have sauce under the cheese which I think really helped with the texture and the whole experience was great.
The little piggy was tasty, but was overshadowed by the other half. The pork overpowered the figs, and there were not many figs on our pizza to begin with. If the owner is reading, I think using a fig balsamic would bring better balance. Still, it was an excellent pizza and I would order it again.
The service was great, the beer is incredible, and this is my new favorite for pizza. I can’t wait to explore the rest of the menu. We will be back.
Update 12/3: did you know you can get a small pizza and half a sandwich? More taco pizza and this time tried the brisket sandwich which was another hit. This place continues to amaze, keep it up!
Update 12/21: godfather pizza might be my new favorite. The carnivore is well made, but not as impressive as The Godfather or taco pizza.
Update 10/7/23: stuffed jalapeños and brisket fries are pretty good. The brown sugar pizza was wet… I think from the pineapple. not bad, but the...
Read moreI’m torn on how to rate this. We came with such high expectations (maybe the issue?) and were a bit let down. We love their Sister restaurant, Zanatas. We expected a more laid back, beer version of that. And in many ways, it was. But in execution—meh.
The pizza is the same style a as Zanata. So that yummy, neopolitan style that’s my personal fave. However, the chef missed a key ingredient and when they brought out the redone pie, it was undercooked. I guess they were in a hurry?
My niece ordered fish tacos. Now, granted she did not add malt vinegar or anything, but they were super bland. I say this as someone who is sensitive to salt, so I normally like things less salty. These majorly needed some season though.
I had the mussels which were great and the exact same as at Zanata. So I wasn’t disappointed at all.
My sister’s chicken salad was okay according to her. The chicken was dry/overcooked.
My husband ordered the risotto. It sounded great but there was something about it neither of us loved (and we love risotto). I’ve heard from others it’s great, so maybe it was just an off night. Idk. All I’ll say is we wouldn’t order it again.
The best part of the meal was the desserts. The same person (someone named Joyce) apparently makes the desserts for both restaurants. Joyce is amazing and I want to know her. We got the bread pudding, chocolate cookie Sunday, and the cheesecake. All three were great but the bread pudding was everyone’s favorite.
They also had a great selection of cocktails. My strawberry cocktail was delicious. I was worried it would be too sweet, but it really wasn’t.
Since the food and drinks were mostly great, I’m giving four stars. What could make me drop down to 3 though was our service. While it wasn’t bad, it was awkward. I can’t remember the name of our server, but he was just awkward. Most of us felt it. Idk.
We will likely go back some time, but at this point it’s not forefront in our minds for...
