This is me and my significant other's second time going here to eat at the Rowlett location. The first time everything was good. The food was excellent and the service was pretty good. Today however, we go there, get seated and wait for our server. Before our server shows up four or five men come in and is seated next to us. The server comes out and immediately goes to their table and takes their drink order. She then turns around and takes ours. No problem. She then returns with their drinks and start taking their food order. Another server brings our drinks a couple of minutes later and leaves. We have been sitting about 10 minutes or more now. After waiting another few minutes we decided to leave. I talked to the girl at the register to let her know what happened and she automatically started making excuses about them being short handed and havimg some large tables to wait on. She then asked "did you not have good servers"? I went on to explain again why we were leaving and she just looked back at the table and we went on out the door. This is definitely not good customer service in our book! We called back to talk to the manager or owner and was told they were at another location. The shift supervisor gave us the excuse that the server knew them and already knew what they were having. If you already know what someone is having you don't have to go around the table asking each perdon and then writing it down. Bottom line is we should have been waited on and served First. We are African American and to be treated like this gives us the impession that we are suppose to be served last, as if it were the 50s and 60s all over again. Our recommendation is; you decide if you want to eat there. Everyone is different, this was just...
Read moreFood is not the greatest. Pricing is a bit too high. Decor is arguably basic. I suppose decor is meant to lend itself to its "down home" charm. The saving grace of Hubbard's (at least for male patrons) is its wait staff. The servers are comprised of modestly clothed, local, pretty young women who are all very congenial with wonderful smiles. Quality of service is average. The wait for food after ordering was way too long for one pancake (14 minutes), even with a busy restaurant. The management/ownership (a husband and wife?) on the other hand could take a customer service seminar or two. Their demeanor seemed more appropriate for a dive-bar than a family restaurant. I got the impression that they consider taking the money of their customers a mundane task and treated those paying customers accordingly- like they'd rather not be wasting time dealing with their bothersome patrons. Despite its shortcomings, Hubbard's is one of the few places in Rowlett that serves breakfast. Alas, the owners of Hubbard's are guaranteed to continue producing a mediocre product with poor customer service and premium pricing. But they would be well advised to take note. Rowlett is growing up as far as savvy clientele and its growing choice of restaurant offerings. Competition is inevitable. That said, the Hubbard's dining experience in it's current state, won't hold...
Read moreLast time I had been to Hubbard's was years ago when they had a location in downtown Garland. This was my first time at the Rowlett location.
I ordered the Hubbard's omelette with ham, mushrooms and swiss cheese. For my sides I had the pan fried potatoes (home fries) and buttered toast. I had their coffee as my choice of beverage.
The omelette was delicious and gigantic! I did not expect it to be this large. It was stuffed with ingredients and quite fluffy. The pan fries were cooked perfectly. Added some salt and pepper and ketchup and they were great. The toast was toasted just right and they put plenty of butter on the bread. It was melted and gave the bread a nice buttery flavor.
The coffee was good and the refills came quick and often. I am not a fan of strong coffee so what they serve was perfect.
Our server was very nice and checked on us every so often to make sure we were doing good. Never had to ask for anything and as I said before, the coffee refills came quickly.
I've seem some reviews of this restaurant looking old and outdated, but I think that's part of their charm. If you want to look at bright new surroundings then go to IHOP. Personally I am a big fan of the older family owned diners and prefer them over the chains. Don't...
