So Delicious was So....... Disappointing.
Let me start by saying that it is Valentine's Day, my expectations weren't super high. I absolutely knew it would be a wait, and busy, pretty much anywhere.
We arrived at So Delicious in Roy at 6pm on Valentine's Day. There were a lot of people in the lobby area so we thought there would be a little wait. Surprisingly we were seated right away. The majority of the people waiting were Grubhub drivers. Approximately 10-12 people waiting for orders to go.
We were seated, brought water and a soda I asked for. A few minutes later, the server returned and took our order. 5 Sushi rolls and an order of edamame. Time 6:15.
The edamame arrived within about 5 minutes. It's now 6:20, and we started eating the pretty delicious garlic edamame.
At 6:50, no sushi had shown up yet. I mentioned to my wife that Sam's Club closes at 8pm, and we might be able to pop in to pick up a couple of things. The restaurant was busy, so if we couldn't make it, I'd go in the morning.
The server never returned to see if I wanted another soda, or to say anything.
7:15 I mentioned to my wife "it's been over an hour" In the meantime, there were about 15 people in the lobby for Grubhub orders, all new delivery drivers. There were 6 sushi chefs behind the counter, and bag after bag of to-go orders kept coming out.
At 7:30, after no server had yet to return, I had enough. We had been there an hour and a half and no dinner yet. I went to the register and said "ring me up for the edamame and soda, we're not waiting any longer, we've been here over an hour and a half ". Surprise! There's the server. She rang me up, and turned the screen towards me. No, I'm not leaving a tip.
We left, still pretty hungry. We stopped at a local Hawaiian food place and picked up in the drive thru and went home.
Dear So Delicious management. I doubt this is your first Valentine's day with Grubhub making pickups. The really great thing about the Grubhub portal is when you are absolutely slammed with in-store customers, you can pause orders from coming through. Instead, you were greedy. You put all those delivery orders ahead of your in-store customers. Shame on you.
Again, let me reiterate, my expectations weren't hugely high on such a busy date night, but let's be real. You can do better.
Turn off Grubhub, doordash, when you can't serve your customers. This really isn't your servers fault (although she never attended our table after taking our order), she was probably overwhelmed as well. This is bad restaurant management. You failed...
Read moreBest sushi. So good. I would recommend this two stars above any other sushi place in the area, I've tried them.
Delicious, beautiful, quick and affordable. Their constant 50% off on their sushi rolls is a little gimmicky, but comparing the end price to competitors always leaves So Delicious cheaper, and the sushi is better by comparison. You gotta go often to figure out what you like best, which will take many visits, because the selection is so good. I prefer the Godzilla and mango shrimp rolls, then adventure to fill how ever many rolls I want. Never disappointed.
They also have a stamp card, 16th roll is free. As if an extra deal was needed for value... It does have a pretty short expiration date, though, so it's really just for regulars, which you will want to be on visiting ;)
There are many non sushi items... But I haven't ordered any. I ate some sweet chicken off my kids plate once, it was good. I'm a big guy and like to eat, I might get 3 rolls and an order of chicken rather than 4 rolls, and fill up better in the future. And there will be future orders, you can be sure.
I've also paid 3x as much for worse sushi.. I can't justify the risk at high price restaurants when this place is so close to where I live.
There are some that will feel more expensive restaurants have better food, because they are expecting it to be good and are convinced of it's quality by the price tag. I feel the opposite, as when I put a great amount of money down for food, I want to be blown away, and I rarely am. So Delicious blows me away, and has a small price tag, which blows me further away... in a "gotta get back there" sort of way.
Also, the atmosphere isn't any better at those "classy" joints, the neighboring table is still going to be wearing a t-shirt and laughing at videos on their phones. That's the...
