Beppe is a newer and excellent addition to the average Royal Oak dining scene, with vibrant flavor of food and immaculate, friendly service. We sat at the bar and Sarah, the bartender, was phenomenal and made the experience that much better!
Here’s how I rated the dishes.
Drinks:
10/10 - Ramos Gin Fizz (this was a special request and Sarah made it happen!) and Sour Blues were perfectly balanced with spirits and refreshing cocktails.
Appetizers:
Roasted carrots (9/10) - The roasted carrots were a standout appetizer, with a scrumptious and savory combination of flavors. The carrots themselves were cooked to perfection, and the addition of ricotta, pomegranate, and pistachio garnish added depth and richness to the dish. The hot honey was a nice touch, though it may have packed a bit too much heat for some palates.
Shrimp and Calamari (5.5/10) - While the shrimp and calamari appetizer wasn't quite as impressive as the roasted carrots, it was still a decent dish. The calamari were well-seasoned, though a bit chewy and lacked crispiness, and the shrimp was well-cooked and flavorful. The lemon aioli served with the dish could have been a bit more acidic, but the cajun remoulade had just the right amount of heat.
Burger and House-cut Fries (9/10) - The burger and house-cut fries were a satisfying main course, with perfectly medium cooked seasoned patties and crispy fries. The burger was prepared Smashburger style, with two patties cooked medium, topped with cheddar, caramelized onions, pickle, and truffle aioli and it was definitely one of the better burgers I have had had in the Detroit area. I appreciate the fries were cut-inhouse and cooked great but could use a dash more seasoning to bring out the potato flavor. Would recommend this dish and would order again!
Barramundi (9/10) – Barramundi had a perfect sear on the outside and slightly crispy, packed with flavor and great texture—can tell the fish is fresh. Risotto was savory had great flavor and ideal texture; tiny parts of the rice were slightly underdone. The dish was finished with a white wine, lemon-butter sauce which made the dish mouthwatering and complete. Would recommend this dish and would order again!
Overall, Beppe is a warm welcome to the Royal Oak dining scene and should be a go-to restaurant for a pleasant night out. If you have not been, please try it! Great service, drinks, and food. I will...
Read moreWe ate here with another couple last Saturday. They had dined at Beppe's previously but it was our first time. We placed our drink order and had to flag the server down after 30 minutes when are drinks had still not arrived. She apologized and said that the bartender was new. After 45 minutes of waiting, we again flagged down the server. One of the husbands from our party went up to the bar and asked what was taking so long. We got our drinks shortly after that. I ordered a second Martini Midway5 through our meal. I don't know what was in that drink but it was definitely not vodka. My husband sipped the drink and confirmed that. We sent it back and our server brought me a new one and made sure I tasted it before she left. The second Martini was perfect and their blue cheese olives are wonderful!
We ordered the steak tartare, roasted cauliflower with cashew butter, lamb ragu, halibut, and pasta with muscles. The steak tartare was disappointing to me. This is my favorite appetizer that I order whenever it is on a menu but I thought it lacked flavor. The cauliflower with cashew butter was absolutely amazing. I couldn't keep my hands off of that cashew sauce!! Out entrees were delicious and the lamb Ragu was hardy and flavorful. We wanted dessert but they were sold out for the night. :(
Regarding the atmosphere, the restaurant was very cramped and extremely loud. They had a patio but it was too hot outside so we ate inside. Maybe it would have been a better atmosphere on the patio.
When we cashed out, our server was again very apologetic for the problems with our drink orders and we learned it was her first night on dinner service. Being so new, she was very good.
Bottom line, I'm glad we went but I would probably not go back. Having said that, I'm still thinking about that cashew butter this evening as I write...
Read moreBeppé is the first restaurant I've ever felt strongly enough about to write a review.
I and my girlfriend had a terrible experience at Beppé. At 5:15pm, we were sat directly in the sun, facing West, which made for an incredibly uncomfortable dining experience. Note: we were the ONLY table directly in the sun and surrounded by tables that were shaded. When we asked to be moved, the owner was unaccommodating, and - despite what he argues - did not offer us another table, citing incoming parties in "90 minutes". As a result, my partner and I were forced to endure the heat and glare throughout our meal while surrounded by comfortable diners.
To be fair, the food was fine. Not the best, but adequate. We loved the tartare; but it was honestly hard to appreciate the meal since the sun was shining directly on our table, making it impossible to even see what we were eating let alone make conversation (since we were so uncomfortable). But, the worst part of the evening was the behavior of the owner/manager. When we raised our concerns, before, during AND after our meal, he was consistently defensive and dismissed our complaints over and over. Shockingly, he even tried to gaslight me about offering us options to move at the start of the meal, which he absolutely did not do.
Spending $200 on a night out should feel like a treat, but instead, we were left feeling disappointed, disrespected, and regretting our decision to dine here. We won't be back, and I advise others to steer clear unless you're okay with rewarding a genuine lack of hospitality and are ok with being treated as if your comfort and satisfaction don't matter.
I feel like we gave Beppé multiple opportunities to win us over, but they just didn't care. They just wanted our money and to...
